I often use similar especially if I'm not likely to play in any online or physical tournaments in the next 6- 12 months. Also good for typing obviously.

Its staggering how a lot of this "gaming gear" out there is just marketing bs, get a standard keyboard and slot in some LEDs our a mouse.

If you're talking about the Unicomps, they're good. Not quite as good as pre-Lexmark IBMs, but good. I believe the New Model M and Mini M are using new molds as well so they're better than the other Unicomps, which last I checked were still being made on the original (read: old and worn-out) Model M tooling.

because most 'gaming' mice are built as cheap as possible and are designed to fail so they can sell you another one right after the warranty

Stay away from major brands and get a third party mouse with optical switches and maybe optical encoder as well if wheel jumping is a problem. Non-omron optical switches can sometimes be hot swapped if you don't like soldering but it depends on the mouse.
