NA VAs vs EU VAs
>Play anime game with English dub
>The VAs are Americans, mostly lack emotion, and all use the same type of voice
>Game is voiced by the UK and other parts of EU
>Voice acting despite being British has emotion and aren't the same voice 24/7
>Turns out the VAs voiced by bing bongs usually have a background in theater work
>The VAs in America don't perform in theater besides a very small handful
Why not force American VAs to work in theater roles first before being asked to voice act for a game or something?

I genuinely can't fucking fathom how anyone can bear listening to a xenoblade game in English.

The dub in 2 was shit, but it's genuinely great in 1 and 3. X has American VAs (appropriately for the setting) and lo and behold, it's just okay.

I suspect there are a lot of great american voice actors out there, but their current voice acting cabal has the industry by the balls. That's why it's the same few "approved" people over and over again.

Because then they would have to be held to an actual professional standard. And we can't have that in the US. Similar to UK VAs, a lot of JP ones sing or do audio dramas. It really shows.

>mostly lack emotion, and all use the same type of voice
I'm so sick of them trying to do an "anime" voice rather than just acting normally. They've all just been mimicking the old funimation VAs years now. As for emotion, the easiest way to tell the difference between US and UK/JP are the yells. Far too often you can feel that they don't believe in what they're yelling about. That there's a barrier they won't cross when it comes to screaming over a cartoon. They sound so forced. A golden standard for yells to me would be the DMC trio of Reuban, Southworth, and Yong Bosch. Their screams are excellent. On some level I'd have to attribute that sincerity to their time working as Power Rangers. Which goes back to your point about Theater making such a huge difference.

US voice directors are probably also to blame. They can't be bothered and ask for the same type of voice all the time. To the point that Matt Mercer got sick of being made to fill in as a Troy Baker substitute.

You're right. There have been random amateur dubs over comic or art strips that sound better than what we usually get.

I can't fathom how Eurocucks can be so impossibly arrogant when they are E*ro*eans...

I think most countries draw from theater or local TV or movie scene. They are just actors with proper training and money don't stink.
NA has a separate VA specific scene. While it's also true in Japan there it's much more professionalised than in US where it seems to draw largely from amateurs and influencers from like anime fandom instead of actors and some of them are okay but most suck and can't act because they never learned.
Nobody has interest in changing that though because you can milk enthusiasts for sag membership money.

Not exactly right, other countries do have specific VA industries (LatAm, France, Germany, Spain, Italy...) The thing is in those countries those VAs dub everything (Hollywood movies, vidya, anime, kid cartoons) so they have more experience and range. Meanwhile in the US you got the VAs who only work in stuff made in the US and VAs who only work on dubbing foreign games and anime and there's a massive difference in quality between those two groups
