Most great games are made by fans for fans, and plenty of them actively present themselves as "we're one of you, not one of them".

The real red flag is-

They're about to alienate old players without attracting a new audience. Or if they attract a new audience, they'll be showing up in large part because they heard about the game/studio/genre from the old audience, and they won't stick around because it's a game for nobody.

The way that you attract the maximum number of players and keep building momentum is to make the best game for that genre/franchise that you possibly can.

And I'd disagree that she's affordable, because there's the "hidden" (if you're retarded) cost of players who are done with studios with the mindset that leads to these kinds of artistic decisions. Every player who doesn't buy because of her effectively tacks the lost money onto the expense of hiring her. If 500k potential customers were swayed against buying because they saw her, that makes her more expensive than a celebrity VA.
