I finally played this game after all the poltards convinced me to stay away for years. It's genuinely great. There's a little too much filler but the worldbuilding is incredible, it feels much more realized then any other vidya world, it could only be compared to proper literary fiction in that regard

It has great humor, obviously people will cherrypick stuff they don't like out of the 1,000,000 word count. Probably an obvious example but I thought it was funny that my super sleuth detective couldn't figure out that the smoker on the balcony was gay

i picked high intellect which is very good in terms of skill check amount but in tems of impact they are mostly boring, logic and encyclopedia gives you a lot of history and flavor text about the world but empathy, shivers, half light are maybe the more interesting checks.

idk what to recommend it's not really a game comparable to others. just pick what you feel is good and really roleplay as that to get the best experience.

so why didn't they update the game with the finished skill portraits? did the artist finish them after the team had already dissolved and refused to pay him after the fact?

Thank you from saving me from having to replay the game to find out the culprit. I guess the writers never figured it out either?

only the intellect row is finished. you can see they are more detailed and colorful than the rest. though i'd argue most of the ingame sketches are better than the finished portraits.

this isnt a 'minmaxable' game failing skill checks is part of the story and many are non repeatable. this is a -LITERAL- roleplaying game in the sense that it's designed for you to actually make decisions as if you're the fictional character
>>719794616
it has the least checks but lots of cool shit behind them, a motorics character is still interesting IMO

I picked Encyclopedia as my main stat or whatever and all it ever did was spout verbose nonsense at me, while giving a good exp bonus. One day I'll replay and pick something less cerebral.

You're going to miss out on lore tidbits and funny dialogue anyway by maxing everything out. Failure sometimes has more fun outcomes with more content than success, eg. Raphael Ambrosius.

The sad thing is this is what roleplaying games in general are supposed to be like, not number go up simulators

not really all 'role playing video games' were initially is just games that took the ideas of progression from actual RPGs like D&D. i think one of the first ones was literally 'dnd' like half a century ago.

i think the idea of actually roleplaying kinda died with 3D games because there was so much work involved in making game assets,animations..... that the idea of having branching stories where players only experiance 1/10 of the game you made for their particular set of choices made it more economic to make 10 linear games than 1 branching game with 10 linear games worth of content.

there's some exceptions to this like telltale but in general this is what makes stuff like DE so unique is it's actually designed for you to mentally assume another character's mind and make decisions for it and the mechanics/point simulator is secondary.

The closest I got to actually getting into this game was playing as the brute character and just going meat head brute force through every situation. the other too classes was just way too many words in each scene.
