The main issue of Russia that permeates their entire society is that they're a former colonial power that has yet to take responsibility for their centuries of imperialism. They don't see their neighbors as sovereign states but as Russian clay that is by happenstance temporarily not part of Russia, but will rejoin in time. Even the most wicked colonial powers in Europe such as the UK eventually gave up their claims to foreign territories.

My point is they were invaded by Russia in 2014 and then Fully in 2022. In 2012, they made a law that Russian is to be used in Regions with 10% or more russian speakers, and a legal language for court etc. After 2014, they were less inclined to make such laws, because they were being attacked and bombed by the biggest Russian Speaking Country on the planet.
