It's going to be niche like the Steam Deck

deck was niche because the launch was niche
normies will follow whatever the big players do and valve has probably the most goodwill out of anyone in the games and soon hardware industry

I’m on the side of the consoles.

Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.

gaben will give oems the confidence to put steamos on them once eck 2 and steam consoles prove themselves
mind that normies don't actually do anything deep on their pcs, they're not pushing the limits
and oems would love to cut costs on windows licences

Newell is evil
Not only did Newell start digital licensing for video games instead of full ownership of software, he is also one of co-inventors of microtransactions, live service games and other evils

probably hates Sony because it promotes digital

It is going to be less powerful than the ps6 and nexboxt. It is going to be a niche product for people too afraid to build their on pcs

what's full ownership of software to you exactly?
being able to copy it and give it to others for free?

Hopefully it forces Microsoft to implement shader downloading on Windows.

you're buying one copy for yourself, the sole difference is that you're not allowed to just give it away or resell it
it's not legal to do it with physical media either but just like them you can bypass the drm with goldberg and play it on any pc even without steam on them

If only he knew just how many lawsuits Nintendo still could frivolously waste on him.

>Not only did Newell start digital licensing for video games
You would have a better time arguing that Bobby did that.,

>he is also one of co-inventors of microtransactions, live service games and other evils
Nintendo doesn't do that because their fetish is macrotransactions instead.

It would've been accurate if he just said loot crates which is similar to gacha but a little more forgiving due to Valve's nature of fostering an item economy which lets you trade up or sell said items within their games.

You're giving him way too much credit, anon. Gaben didn't invent microtransactions, live service, or even digital licensing - he just saw the direction things were heading and doubled down harder than anyone else. If anything, Steam just made PC gaming more convenient while normalizing always-online DRM. Blame the suits at EA and Activision before you start building a conspiracy corkboard around Newell. But yeah, the double standard with hating Sony for going digital while Steam literally *is* digital-only is peak cope.

steam's drm is paper thin and can be bypassed by dropping a single file
it's so easy that pretty much every singleplayer centric game without denuvo comes from being ripped off steam
steam itself has gotten more lenient with playing offline as well, it doesn't even try spamming connects and pretty much instantly goes into offline mode without internet access
digital vs physical matters on consoles because you can't just copy and control your files, it takes years for jailbreaking to even arrive
with consoles physical is the one shred of freedom you even have, with pc you have to actively not care to not have that freedom
