Phone suck for gaming though, they're not meant to use blast processing for extended periods of time. They run hot and it destroys your battery health.

You're going to have to use a battery bank for handheld emulators anyways, their batteries are usually their biggest weak point, phones usually have much better and higher quality batteries in them, especially if you get a phone thats specifically designed for gaming loads like the redmagic pro 10

thats not the point I'm trying to make, on 'demanding' games (I'm talking stuff like burnout 3 for PS2) you'll be lucky to get 2 hours on most handheld emulators, so if you're worried about needing a powerbank to play emulated games on the go you'll have to have one either way.

I'm an adult so I own my phone and theres nothing a ne phone can do that my 8 year old samsung cant.

Also, I already own multiple handhelds, so why use a phone(see I turned it around!)

Also if you're into old game emulation, there's a huge chance you've been emulating the same games for over 2 decades. The novelty, for me at least, is gone

It honestly comes down to feel. It feels good to play on something that resembles an actual handheld device. I first tried using a Gamesir G8 on my phone and it didn't hit the same. Meanwhile, my RP4 gets used daily, and I carry it around with me almost everywhere I go. Then there's the other advantages like having a dedicated gaming handheld meaning your phone is freed up to do more phone-related things, and it also saves your phone's battery. Oh and also these emulation handhelds, like my RP4, usually have video-out, meaning you can play these games on the TV with a bluetooth controller.

They're great for my kids. I've bought them an anbernic RG40XX for like 60โ‚ฌ with games and they can play everything up to the PSP, and even connect it easily on the TV if they want to play multiplayer. It's really super light and sturdy enough, but if it breaks it's not too much of a big deal anyway. Even for me it's quite practical, I can play anything I want pretty fast and without having to load the roms on my phone, which is always saturated with tons of pictures, videos, music and whatnot. Not sure about the bigger and more expensive ones, maybe a steam deck or equivalent would be preferable, idk.

Tl;dr the cheap ones are great little toys overall. Much better than the Zelda game and watch with 3 games that nitendo sold for about the same price some years ago.

from what i've heard, phones don't have the power management or the heat management to play games for a long time the way dedicated machines do.

but if you're gonna play ~50 hours of games it doesn't matter. and if you're gonna play more then that's a mental illness
