Honestly no one solo queues in earnest anymore with the goal to find people to play with after that lobby. Many people these days have friends that also play PC games with them, PC gaming is basically mainstream at this point. If you queue at all, it's usually a mixed lobby where you have 1-3 people you are in TeamSpeak (or discord if you are gay) with, and a few randoms you either ignore, mute, or troll if you are feeling spicy.
I can't speak for consoles because I don't any of the most recent XBOX/PlayStation releases.

If you say something that can be misconstrued as hateful, you lose access to the game and your online account.

League of Legends was genuinely fun, as in it induced the emotion joy, back when people just raged and nobody ever got muted or banned. Usually this would end in a one-sided match but the best ones were when 1-2 people from each team were raging for the 30-40 minutes of closely tied gameplay and then the whole team raged when it was clear that it's over. Made it feel lively and fun in a social way.

I've been playing Turtle WoW before it's inevitable demise and people are very social despite the server being filled with slavs, chinks and spics. I thought a lot about why this was and I've come to understand that it goes beyond just everyone being into Discord or social gamers all moving to mobile games or some other explanations about the change of the eras.

Modern games are simply less designed for socialization. Accessibility and goal oriented games encourage you to get through shit as quickly as possible. The most immediately important factor in this is that games are designed to move you through content quickly while keeping failure forgiving and encounters intuitive. You don't need to ask questions, and even if you fuck up people will keep moving. Outside of combat and shit, being able to teleport all around the world or having characters that're all self-sufficient keeps people from talking to each other. Social hubs are often pointless unless they roleplayers are using them. Friction is necessary if you want players to communicate information.

Convenience. Not even joking. When you can just "queue" for a dungeon players are just "classes" that fill certain "roles", basically bots. Online games need to find the sweetspot of friction. When you remove all friction you invite min maxing power gamers that just want to farm a certain item and begrudgingly join a dungeon group because they can't farm it alone. They probably have done that dungeon a hundred times and just want to collect the thing and be done. They don't want a group, they don't want to deal with people. They want convenience.

Decline of forum culture. In forums you'd essentially all be a group of friends, you'd know the personalities and preferences of regulars. When forums died out and social media became the main space for online interaction it made it so that people are either complete strangers or "influencers" who seek out eceleb status.
Discord culture is also not a substitute for forum culture, though it isn't too far off from it. The issue with Discord and chat apps is that things move quickly, there aren't dedicated threads and there's less canvas for profile expression than the old PHB-style forums. Discord not having logs also means less room for OC which I think was a valuable part of forum culture.

The biggest issue I have found with MMOs is too fast combat. If you go back to a slow game like FFXI, on a private server, people chat quite a lot because of how slow the combat is. But as soon as you just to modern MMOs with action combat (and much less RPG), there isn't enough time to talk.

People aren't part of community servers anymore, and part of that is because a lot of games don't even allow users to host their own servers.
Match Making puts you in a game with strangers you'll only know for less than an hour and that leaves little incentive for to become invested in forming friendships.
