I think occupational character classes would be pretty cool. Like a PVP game where you can be a chef with a meat cleaver, a cop with a baton, a fireman with an axe, construction worker with a sledgehammer etc.
Maybe you can even select a face model rather than play some pre-baked personality because devs can't write good ones anymore so it's all just instantly recognizable classes but because they're all everymen they're kind of self-inserts too.

The new characters mog the old ones so hard, and I am not even sure why. Even Victor which is technically just a boring mix of Pudge and WK feels so much more fleshed out than the original cast

Because these are the only characters that are complete. Bebop is still a robot samurai in case you haven't noticed. Even more finished characters that don't have old or placeholder models have placeholder animations and missing textures in some places
