Fucking A5 solo beaten at last though, damn. Blowing 2 slots on balloons is kind of a burden, especially with this Ascent tier already needing you to hold the lantern and flare as well, but man does it feel nice having 0 weight debuff.

update: beat tenderfoot and peak
there's this area about 20% of the way up the kiln that would be a free way up if not for about four magma rocks crowding the place. on tenderfoot i think i used a lollipop and had to use all of the infinite stamina timer + my green bar and some reserve to make it, but it turns out you don't need that because there's a complicated although energy-efficient path upwards that is very well hidden among the rocks.
i also needed to use a chain launcher on tenderfoot about 80% of the way up. i didnt find one on this peak run but i didn't need it because i found another way up that just needed a rope cannon and energy drink. chain launchers are rarer than the blood of christ so being able to win without one is great news.
other thoughts:
>tropics and alpine are a bit fucky but hopefully i can refine pathing
>the capybaras in the alpine are RIGHT THERE after the line of luggage on the floor to the right
>shore has two sets of good luggages right at the start on some higher altitude ground, but it takes a while to reach them so im not very incentivized

I got to the top of the tropics for the first time, and I got to climb to the top of a really big tree! This was also my first time playing multiplayer in peak. def alot more fun with others. had a bad jump in the alpines and fell to my death, thats what I get for trying to save my marshmallow for too long.

Stick to the right side of the flat area to get a FUCK TON of luggage until you get to the Capybaras then climb up the left side of the mountain.
You will need a Soda to get up to a ledge with a lave stream near it and even afterwards there are nasty stamina draining climbs afterwards. It's a nasty climb but I just finished it on Ascent 7

It's all about routing. 9 times out of 10, there's always gonna be an easy path that doesn't need extra stamina or items. Of course, learning extra tech can open up a lot of options (rope boosting, double grab lunging, etc.), you'll be fine if you can identify good routes and know when to bail on a climb if it doesn't look good.

The rules are:
- Scoutmaster spawns after 3 minutes, chases lowest player on mountain
- Each time we turn on a campfire, he goes away for 3 minutes, before he comes back
- You can "Bonk" the Scoutmaster with any item, just throw it at him
- You can use banana peals as well to slip him
- Hes scared of the faerie lantern if you turn it on
- Playing on standard peak difficulty, with extra loot and marshmallows to compensate for players

Every single day I play and say "This might be the most fucked [x] I've seen yet" the game takes it as a challenge to spawn the most horrendously generated map the next day.

yes you can go into the lava with golden bing bong and float all the way to the top, as long as you aim all the way up the whole time to avoid dipping them into the lava. i floated up and then went back down to see if you could dip and destroy even if they are in your hands and the answer is yes, so just aim up the whole way.
the bad part is this is REALLY boring; you are skipping the most exciting part of the game this way, and if you are able to carry a weight handicap up the mesa then you should have no problem beating the kiln unless you have literally no food or tools, but if that was the case how did you make it up the mesa to begin with?
in any case, the lava floats almost to the top, where the last very easy rocks are plentiful, so you should be able to hold S until you find an incline somewhere and climb up from there. you probably don't even need a pandora's lunchbox, but it could be handy to pack one with you in your hotbar in case something goes wrong.
if you do this in multiplayer you also risk everyone starving to death waiting for your fat ass to reach the top, but it might be worth it if everyone has a lot of food and the guy carrying the idol is too shit at the game to make it up without dying.

Yeah, Ascent 5 can be manageable in some cases depending on the seed and what loot is generated, but Ascent 6 is total stress from the tropics onwards.
They also turn this very friendly game into a cutthroat FFA the further you progress into the levels. It's actually psychologically interesting how most players change their behaviour gradually as the resources dwindle.
I don't know if I would want to do Asc5+ most of the time, but on the occasion, yes, just because I do like the challenge. Both mechanical and moral.

Speaking of Asciies, I love Ascent 4. Doesn't really change the difficulty much, if at all, if the carrier is decent, but can make for a lot of social interaction and cause some very interesting moments.

ascent 4 has the added challenge of less stamina to go around overall, plus hunger troubles to witness cannibalism and desperation more often.
the flare modifier might not have impact all of the time but when everyone is at the caldera temple with no flare to be seen, the tone of the game changes in an instant.
ascent 5 and above are too fucked up i think for the sorta casual and chill atmosphere /v/ lobbies are trying to go for. ascent 6 in particular is horrifying because every small insignificant stepping stone now becomes a horrifying climb of uncertainty and looming death.
then ascent 7 is not friendly for our large games at all. people come here to play; not to sit and watch, which is what 90% of people will be doing since the death rate from hunger is so high. it could be interesting to begin with a 20-man crew and see what happens, but in that circumstance i would just want the permadeath modifier with none of the stuff below it. could be a fun game mode if it wasn't for horrible desyncing and fps problems preventing it.

There were a couple of Ascent 7 attempts in these threads and they went as well as you'd expect. If I recall, there was one 10+ man lobby attempt and only 4 of them made it out of the Shores. It got to Mesa before it all went downhill from food and climbing mistakes.

Same. I like to spot paths and scout them, and I try to do it quickly, but there are times when you can't tell if a path will be good, until you go too far. Cold nights straight up exist to punish straying, and are more effective at it than the scoutmaster.
Now don't tell this to anyone else, for they have weak hearts, but I was thinking; since you only need one other scout to survive the night, you could break another scout's legs so they pass out.
Then you could simply carry them on your back, and not only do you survive the night, but you can keep moving, instead of sitting in a crouch pile, wasting time. This does cost you a backpack, but I often run packless anyways.

Comparatively Lethal and the like are very Post-modern. It's all pretty cynical as the games heavily depict corrupt corporate entities, post-apocalyptic scenarios, and eventual failure. You play the role of a hopeless cog in a nightmare machine that will inevitably consume you without remorse.

The latter is very popular right now but the former has universal appeal, which sometimes that's all you really need.

It's probably better to refine the current game, add something fundamental to the core gameplay that serves the game long-term on its own
For example, adding items would be a secondary addition, since you can already reach the goal with the current item set.
Something truly fundamental would be something that plays around the Stamina mechanics.
For example, this could be a primary addition: another stamina bar that represents "Endurance". All action except walking, standing, crouch, expends Stamina AND Endurance. Endurance serves as the Stamina refill, as long as you have Endurance, your Stamina will refill naturally as it is right now. But, if you run out of Endurance, your stamina won't get refilled. Endurance takes a lot longer to deplete, but also longer to refill on its own (sleeping might be a good idea).
In short: Stamina could be our burst-effort, while Endurance would be our total available action point.
This is a primary addition because it completely changes your pacing and strategy to routing, etc.
I'm not saying they should add this, just an example. A fundamental change requires careful considerations of all gameplay aspects.
