The majority of the fanbase of Undertale and Deltarune have never played the games. They have only absorbed the experience of watching other people play the games for them. This has been the case since roughly a year or so after Undertale released. Also, Deltarune Chapter 1 released for free through a suspicious .exe that wasn't through Steam, and we don't have the tracking numbers for that when it came out.

The game doesn't have a demo or anything, people were rushing to buy this game only because the devs made a good game 6 years ago. Even though we have many cases of devs making shitty sequels, buggy games on release, bundling spyware with their games and not telling anyone until release day and more, and even though there's no rush to play this game since it's single player, people somehow have a ton of goodwill towards procrastinating devs who took 6 years to make an indie platformer and never gave us any reason to trust that their first success wasn't just a fluke.
