At this point I'm wondering if the conspiracy theory claiming Amplitude made Humankind intending for it to get ripped off by Frixas and bomb hard enough for them to buy their bonds from Sega had some weight to it.

Granted, even without the civ swapping shit, every other aspect of this game is so rancid that nothing could fix it. The map generator, the effective hard resets each era, all of it.

Was civ 6 even good? The city districts look neat but I'm so turned off by the art style and the leaders.

I've put over +1000hrs in Civ 5 and it's still one of my favorite games

But I use PcEM for a lot of Win 95/98 era games that you'd never otherwise get working, properly or at all.
e.g. Jedi Knight's 3dfx won't work on the GOG version, without a lot of fucking around with wrappers. And if you do that it will crash when grenades/barrels explode. And the music (originally CD audio) doesn't play right.

The leaders are very hit and miss. I love particular leaders like Gandhi or Philip II, very stylized and excellent animation. Then there are others like Genghis Khan, who look like plastic and moving around stiffly. Pretty evident that Firaxis had a good leader team and a bad leader team.

The world artstyle is (overall) great. Might look cartoony but you just need it, I'd much rather have recognizable color coded districts in 6 than totally indistinguishable buildings in 7. The game is so much better when you can understand an opponent's city's layout at just a glance, rather than having to sit down and analyize it. I still prefer 5's artstyle but 6's isn't a gamebreaker
