is this truly the hardest game ever made?

depends on your definition of "hard"
if it's based on # of deaths maybe, but the punishment for dying is fairly small compared to alot of older games

Life's harder. Fuck your thread.

pretty much every single game from the nes + snes era and all roguelikes are harder than this parryslop

the first half of the game is the hardest because the player is most likely still stuck in the dark souls combat mentality. Once Genichiro molests it out of you during his second fight then the game becomes a lot more manageable once you learn its philosophy of no hesitation

Only the cyclops, but once you get rid of that muthafucka the game gets easier, even when you fight the second cyclops in one of those ashina palace ground floor

>le heckin souls game so hard!
i swear fromsoft fans literally don't play much games at all. "Soulsborne" games are nowhere near the hardest games and anyone who knows anything about games knows that.

Demon of hatred is the only โ€œhardโ€ mob. Iโ€™m admittedly bad at souls games and was able to clear every boss (other than demon, which I cheesed).
Unironically, ER and the fuckoff weird delayed strikes and combos the bosses have are harder. Like malekith, Melania etc.
desu sekiro hits that sweet spot vs difficulty and rewarding fights. They are fair, but not โ€œeasyโ€, but you donโ€™t feel like the devs went out of their way to be cunts.

Fromsoft cultists unironically don't care about video games, they only play fromsoft games and then they fuck off from video games until the next new rollslop releases.

No, not at all. Most of the Dark Souls games are harder. But Sekiro is still the best Fromsoft game.

ER difficulty only comes directly from the gameplay if you refuse to use certain gameplay mechanics. If you actually use the tools ER gives you, then it's not that hard of a game. It actually becomes such an easy game that the community has to shitpost YOU DIDN'T BEAT IT to cope with it since it's supposed to be MUH HARDCORE GAME that gives their life validation. Rest of the difficulty comes from just figuring out which builds work and which spells/weapons/whatever work.

Well, I donโ€™t want to go down that rabbit hole, but personally I struggled with the boss fights in ER (sans player summons) much more than in sekiro.
Hell even nameless king in ds3 gave me more trouble than any boss in sekiro (minus demon)

Demon of Hatred is pretty easy. Just bait a ranged attack by just barely getting into range, take one step back (or a few more if he does his overhead slam), and he misses. Then you can close the distance and do free vitality damage. Repeat until he dies.

Shazam lost.
Sekiro isn't even the hardest souls game because wolf is incredibly overpowered and the full parry window is massive

the "sekiro is super hard" hoax comes from a bunch of dark souls boomers who spent the previous decade mindlessly swinging their bonksticks around and poising through attacks. of course, all of them were instantly filtered by sekiro. the combat is very intuitive once it actually clicks and then the game just feels like a nice fair challenge

no. an average nes game is 10 times harder.

Depends on what kind of player you are and what are your strenghts and weaknesses.

For me it was the most difficult game because of Isshin essentially having 4 phases if you count Genichiro and to me remembering so many attack patterns and properly responding to all of them without mistakes was my undoing, wouldn't even be a problem in of itself if the stagger meter wouldn't immediately reset the moment you made a mistake and were knocked down / forced to retreat to heal, if Genichiro was the same I would have been filtered there and would have had to quit the game.

It's not even about reaction time but consistently doing it without faltering. By contrast I had absolutely no problems with >>719831686 mentioned, Souls in general can be gimmicked in ways Sekiro can't.

t. 35yod boomer that can still play Starcraft with 200+ APM even though I haven't done it in almost 10 years

Or you could just not be a pussy and stay close while constantly attacking while parrying his stomps and using the fire umbrella for the big explosion

beat this a few days ago. it was harder and more enjoyable than every soulsbornekiroring slop ive played.

Demon of Hatred is a Souls boss slipped into the very end of Sekiro as a bonus fight. It's hard because the parry-based combat you've spent the whole game up to that point learning doesn't work. You need to dodge and punish it like a Souls boss. If you're not comfortable with Souls games it's going to give you a lot of trouble, so that sounds about right. It gave me trouble too, just because switching gears like that didn't come as quickly as I'd like.

If he somehow manages to get away from you, baiting his ranged attacks gives you an opening to get close to him without spending any resources.
Anonymous No.719833595
It's not hard at all once you understand that the combat system actually rewards aggression. It's incredibly fun though, which is the important part. It's way easier than souls for example, but not a single souls game has a combat system this good.

I did and after dozens of times dying at Isshin's spear phase, I started to tilt and forget how to even fight Genichiro (not every time but enough times to make me reset a bunch of times and add to the anger)

I didn't try more than 3 hours to be fair, I did it in three separate instances 1 hour each, had I insisted I would have drilled into my skull all the moves eventually but I refuse to do that if I know there's nothing waiting after I'm done (except a cinematic I can see on Youtube)

I did beat Shura Isshin though and relatively quickly mind you, think it was 4 or 5 tries.

You just have to sleep on it. That's how memorization works, you need to give your brain time to process all those new patterns you learnt. Once you start losing your cool, you stop making progress.

I wish they were confident enough to make prosthetics and combat arts more powerful in open form gameplay. You can weave them in and theyโ€™re fun and stylish but with the exclusion of the โ€œlock and keyโ€ use cases like headless apes neck hole or the shield guys, using them never feels like a significantly more efficient style of play than just sword attacks, especially for their cost. Their use could have been the difference between someone who understands the combat and someone whoโ€™s mastered it. Instead, theyโ€™re mostly fun, but frivolous. That fixed and more cosmetic options would put the game at a 11/10, itโ€™s currently at a measly 9.

I recently beat Sekiro since abandoning it at isshin, I don't remember why I abandoned the game, most likely something else multiplayer came up.
Beat the game in about 9 hours then beat isshin in 5 tries, by the end of the game Wolf becomes a force of nature

I know but refer back to my initial point, I lose the motivation to try if there's no more content after the fight, just doing it to flex or get an achievement never did it for me.
I do like the challenge but only if it fits my playstyle, constant precision is probably my weakest point and not something I had to deal with in any other game I played (unless you count DotA and other MOBA last hits but that's not really game changing / breaking if you miss a few)

By contrast Souls and especially ER can be cheesed in so many ways it's not even funny, I even did a whole run beating all the bosses without summons or mimic and succeeded (mostly because Faith magic is OP)
Anonymous No.719835175
>>719834569

I will add that ER is in fact a lot harder if you refuse to make use of all it offers like >>719832191 pointed out, I have a STR char Claymore only, no magic except Golden Vow and grease like enchants and I tried to play it with no summons / mimic either and I got filtered at Maliketh, think I tried like 30 times and gave up, it was possible cause I got really close a bunch of times but having already beaten the game so many times it lost its charm so it wasn't as fun to keep trying.

I think ER is a victim of an incredibly high bar, and its own rabid fan base. But it is a very high quality game by any objective measure..
sekiro is a masterpiece on all fronts though.
