I am a Sonicfag and I played the demo and I liked it, have I been missing out on this franchise, SEGAbros?

If the only interaction with SEGA you've had is Sonic then you're missing out on a lot of games. Namco and Taito are great as well.

The footage i saw of this looked mad boring, just a lot of basic platforming and doing combos on sponge enemies... maybe the combat has some hidden intricacy i couldn't perceive but I'll assume it's just shit as this is most likely

I beat the game last night. Honestly, it was "okay". There's a bit too much exploration focus if you're out to complete everything, but it's all very barebones and clearly marked on your map so there isn't actual exploration depth to any of it. The combat never really gets elevated to anything cool, most of your options are just ways to stunlock (most) enemies to death in different methods. By the time you reach the later half of the game you've seen 90% of the enemy types and then they just add some color variants with purple attacks you can't dash through. And the extra challenge rooms that try to encourage you to master the platforming are absolute fucking dogshit with physics and controls that are just not precise enough for what some of they're demanding. This final room in the penultimate stage, I am just not bothering with anymore, so no 100% for me.

Silksong probably offers what this game is offering for ten bucks less, but more meat on its bones and better refinement. It's a dime a dozen platformer that doesn't really feel like Shinobi most of the time, but more like someone's Mega Man X + Metroidvania fangame that got a Shinobi license thrown on top and a ton of art that frankly isn't really a good selling point. Not even the soundtrack stands out, it fits the game but does nothing to really resonate or stick with you.

I can't really call it a Metroidvania since unlocking new abilities for old locations is effectively ONLY for extra items and completion, but I can't call it a proper linear action game either. It feels like it really doesn't know what it wants to be and the devs just threw a lot of stock standard indie ideas at a $30 wall. But I can tell you this: you've probably played this before, and you'll play many more like it. You're not missing much by skipping it.

Also fuck any developer that has unskippable cutscenes + instant death chase sequences with checkpoints to before the cutscene.

Oops I meant a different screenshot, but that shit was horseshit too. Tired of someone's attempts to Super Meat Boy some shit into games that aren't fit for it.
