God Eater, Dauntless, Freedom Wars. do NOT possess this. Your hunting zones are like 1.5 times larger than the largest SINGULAR zones in mon hun. There's no exploration, no grand sights. no means to indulge and enjoy the hunting zone.
3. interesting monsters both large and small that give a feel of an ecosystem.
the other games have decent to great large beasts, but have basically nothing for tiny ones and again basically just thrown around without care.
4. engaging npcs. be it your quest gal. guild head, smithy, cook. trader. etc. everyone has a favorite nopc from a mon hun game.
GE and FW are like half here at least.

Gathering with pickaxes and nets is infact good. It's part of the resource management and balancing that is essential to Mon Hun as a core.
Nevermind that in world, rise and wilds you just tap a resource spot once and get all pulls from it instantly. The ONLY thing gens did right was chaining gathering together so you can keep the motion/action going between pulls, rather than a full stance reset as prior.
Mon Hun didn't need to go beyond that.

The zones are larger on average on gens ult. the hunting region as a whole feels much larger and expansive due to the loading system able to portray distance in a way interconnected/open simply can NOT (hell look at 4u Dunes. the amount of implied distance between i think its 1, the rolling slopes and 3. the sprawling lake side area with the sinkhole is MASSIVE. to get that feeling in an open map requires at least 2 if not 3 extra zones and it'd still only barely mimic that feel.)
even if zones are 'annoying' they help to sell just how massive, expansive, diverse and far reaching hunting regions are.

The "next gen" open world experience that Wilds tried to sell is way too bloated and technically straining of a gameplay loop to easily transfer it down to the Switch 2.
