I want to try out the 3D NG games but I've no idea where to begin what with all the different versions and remakes.

Is emulating NG:B and NG2 the way to go?

Yeah, emulate if you can. Last time I tried to run NGB in Xemu it was pretty choppy. That was well over a year ago, so maybe the emulation is better.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma is also good, the only draw back are the Rachael chapters (I ended up liking them) and some new boss fights. There's a huge list of little changes between Black and Sigma, but overall it comes down to which ever version is easier to play.

If you have an Xbox One/X -> You can buy Black and 2 on the online store, or even buy a copy from ebay.

If emulation doesn't work, or you don't have an Xbox -> You can buy the Master Collection on your platform of choice. The only problem is that the Master Collection has Sigma 2, which is a huge downgrade from the original version.

>2025
>early xbox title still doesn't emulate well
>alternatives are all inferior

Give it a try, anon. I may just be retarded. I didn't bother trying too much with Xemu since I have a Series X that plays both NGB and 2 really well and upscales them (no slow down either). I think other anons have said that it emulates well now. I wouldn't say that Sigma 1 is a downgrade or inferior. I've beaten both versions. It's just a bit different here and there. Sigma 2 is the one to avoid.

>emulate

yes, that'd be perfect if you have a powerful PC

soon (~a year) you will be able to play the decompiled games from 360 and that would be another route

if emulation is not an option or your pc ain't powerful enough to run it smoothly

ninja gaiden sigma 1 is close enough to ninja gaiden black to be considered a "passable" experience for a new comer out of the box (on steam) . I'll leave it at that. It's not great. But it'll do.

The only other way to do NGII is to mod sigma 2 version from steam using the black mod by busa (the installation guide is on youtube). It's also not perfect but it gets you pretty close to the OG NGII. Again "black" is a mod for sigma 2 and not the re-release. Only play it modded.

absolutely avoid sigma 2, NG2 black and all that other unholy cuckery

no info on ng3 because I don't give a fuck about it (razor's edge is not terrible but treat it like a well made fan expansion to kill time)

Master collection, play the Black mod for 1 and 2, 3re is already the best version

it's a testament to how the NG games have been slept on for decades

Xemu and Xenia run like shit. I bought an Xbox 360 to play them instead

I'm currently emulating NGB using xemu and it runs great, the only issue i've seen so far is that the surface of water has fucked up textures.

>NGB
The best thing to do for NGB is to just play it on original hardware or a later xbox (afaik you can play it on every xbox console), but emulation is the way to go if you can't do that for some reason. Sigma (the version included in the Master Collection on modern platforms and PC) is a fine version of the game, but still a downgrade from Black in a few ways.
>NG2
NG2 is best played on an Xbox One or Series X or emulated. You can play it on 360 if you want, but it has famously shit performance in a few areas which might hurt the experience. Sigma 2 is so shit that it isn't even worth mentioning.
