Why the hell do IF/CH not care about Hyperdimension Neptunia anymore?
The series put them on the map and yet these days it's like you can feel the disdain the creators have for the series and the fans seeping into the games themselves.
At this point I almost wonder if the reason we've never gotten a true followup to VII is because they're refusing to do it out of spite.
>Here's another shitty action spinoff following Nepgear and some retarded newfag goddess and also we have bargain bin versions of Reimu and Rena Ryugu in the game.
>Here's another awful action spinoff following the main goddesses but now they're on motorcycles, don't ask us why.
>Here's a re-release of VII except we cut a bunch of content from the game and ruined the combat, and in exchange you get a few boring VR scenes with the main 4 goddesses and Adult Neptune. What's that, you wanted to see Nepgear or Uni, or the Gold Third or literally anyone else? Fuck you.
It's so fucking tiresome, if they hate the series and the fans so much, I'd honestly just prefer if they stopped making games altogether because this is just insulting on all fronts, and I didn't even get to mention the shitshow that is Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution, or how Neptunia U and MegaTagmension are directly ported from the Vita with no effort to turn them into competent PC versions, or how Producing Perfection has never been ported off the Vita hell even down to minuscule things like Steam profile backgrounds being named incorrectly, and Steam badges having names like "Cyberdimension Neptunia Badge 01 - 06" these people are so fucking lazy and I just don't understand why.

It's not that they don't care, it's just that, among other things, their games have not been selling well lately (even for their standards) and they don't have a lot of budget to work with. I don't deny that the state of the Neptunia franchise is partially Compile Heart's fault, but external factors that involve even the platform holders (censorship) certainly don't help. For now, there is the upcoming musical Neptunia Re:boot and also the PS4 versions of the Re;birth games in the west...we'll see.

Have they considered for a moment that maybe people are fucking tired of action games? There are other genres for spinoffs and yet we have a ton of fucking action games.
>Neptunia U
>MegaTagmension
>Cyberdimension
>Sisters Vs Sisters
>Neptunia x Senran Kagura
>Riders Vs Dogoos
Maybe if they tried something else for once, it might sell. People have been fucking begging for a Neptunia fighting game for eons, or hell just give us a racing game, that's what Riders Vs Dogoos should've been anyway.
>I don't deny that the state of the Neptunia franchise is partially Compile Heart's fault, but external factors that involve even the platform holders (censorship) certainly don't help.
I don't fault them for the censorship, at least outside of Sisters Vs Sisters since that was their own fuckup, yet it's also their own fault for continuing to release on cucked platforms like PS4 and Switch which notoriously crackdown on even the slightest hint of fanservice in games these days.
>For now, there is the upcoming musical Neptunia Re:boot
I'm unaware of what this is.
>and also the PS4 versions of the Re;birth games in the west...we'll see.
This is what, the 4th or 5th time these games are getting re-released, not counting their original incarnations on the PS3? I'm sure people are super excited to play Re;birth 2 and do the Conquest ending for the 5th time.

Well, it's true that most spin-offs are action games of some kind, but Compile Heart also gave us other games in general, the new Death end re;Quest game is a roguelike/mystery dungeon game, Calamity Angels: Special Deliver is a turn-based game etc, they have made other games more or less, can't argue that people have been begging for a racing game or a fighting game though. Compile Heart continues to release games on consoles but I really can't blame them for that...a lot of people buy games on consoles and developers that are like ''we only release games for PC, we won't release our games on consoles'' are the exception, not the norm.

Personally, I've never played Re;birth 3 and Victory, it's one of the few Neptunia games I haven't played, if it's uncensored, the PS4 version should be a great way to play the game. Regarding the music, here's a relevant video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irYEgEuPHDA

And what does that leave? Microsoft/Xbox who are even more cucked and banned Gal*Gun Returns and fucking Postal Redux, Steam who banned a censored version of Tokyo Clanpool, GOG who demanded the same censorship of Tokyo Clanpool as Nintendo did, DLSite who are buckbroken by payment processors, and then the rest of the backwater PC storefronts with a few thousand users max. You underestimate just how dire the situation is for anime moege and eromoe otaku games.

And that's well and good, but I don't want to play those games, I want to play a Neptunia game, because it's my second favorite series of all time. I just want to play a Neptunia game that isn't an action game but that seems to be all we're allowed to have anymore.
>Compile Heart continues to release games on consoles but I really can't blame them for that...a lot of people buy games on consoles and developers that are like ''we only release games for PC, we won't release our games on consoles'' are the exception, not the norm.
Which is ultimately a shame since continuing to release on consoles is ultimately doing more harm than good due to the extreme restrictions on fanservice and other suggestive themes that companies like Sony and Nintendo have put in place over the years.

You can literally get it right here:

Granted it's a glitchy, unstable mess, but chances are given IF/CH's track record, it'll be even more unplayable on PS4.

A common theory is that after VII, they wanted to use their cash reserves from Neptunia's success to fund "hobby" projects of sorts, as they started experimenting a bit with new settings and characters with different spins on their JRPG formula (and a few dungeon crawlers). Death end re;Quest and Mary Skelter came out of this, as well as Dragon Star Varnir. Possibly Fairy Fencer F and the later entries of Genkai Tokki as well. All of these were good efforts with spins on a JRPG formula that they and their fans were familiar with, and I would say many of them are among their best offerings. Problem is, after the Sony censorship hit and many of these projects started running into difficulties, combined with Nepfags getting increasingly annoyed at being treated as a funding bank, they started losing the plot hardcore, their old president left, and now they're reduced to pushing out halfassed, gimmicky games that are far removed from their classic JRPG formulas in a desperate attempt to make something stick, all while the former problems keep amplifying and the disastrous Neptunia 10th anniversary killed off Neptunia's public presence. That they're finally greenlighting a new Neptunia mainline after all this time reeks of a desperate move; they realize that nothing they've tried is going to stick and this is their final card to play.

There is debate/disussion if Compile Heart should continue to release their games on consoles or not, regardless if it's doing more harm than good (it's something debatable at least) they have made their decision and will continue to release games on consoles even if they can't put as much fanservice as they used to. Edens Zero, Full Metal Schoolgirl and even the next Atelier game prove that you can still have *some* fanservice in a console game, nowadays it's just a question of whether they'll deliver or not.

I actually remember hearing about this, and honestly I had no issues with it at the time since after experiencing what was and still is the best game in the entire Neptunia series, I figured some smaller non-Neptunia games in between would be fine, if we kept up the quality of VII. The issue of course being that they did not keep up the quality of VII going forward.
>That they're finally greenlighting a new Neptunia mainline after all this time reeks of a desperate move; they realize that nothing they've tried is going to stick and this is their final card to play.
Can't wait to see how hard this crashes and burns, but I'll hold out the tiniest bit of hope that this turns out even moderately well.

It's not simply that they don't view PC as a vaible platform, it probably has more to do with how multiplat is the meta for modern releases and everyone tells you that platform exclusives are dead and no longer viable. Even Inti Creates in the image I posted spells out this sentiment.

>It became a situation where we worked hard to make the game, but which platform can we release it on? If I said, β€œLet's release it only on the platforms we can release it on,” I would end up making a new GirlGun game, and the people who enjoyed the previous game, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, would be angry because they couldn't play it even if they wanted to.

>That's what's happening now, and it's really limiting for indie developers. There are fewer platforms that we want to make, that we want to put out, that we want to enjoy, and we may not be thinking about how to do that as a business first.

No one wants to release platform exclusives any more because they see it as bad for business. Just a month or two ago this one PC game, Ready or Not, announced it was getting a console release after being PC exclusive for a while, and censorship was required, and they decided to backport the censorship to the PC version instead of maintain two separate versions, and it caused pretty major backlash.

Sure but nobody wants to buy censored games either. There has to be a middle ground. Release the games censored on console if you want, but PC should remain censorship-free, and yet...

But why would they do that? Imagine if when Nekopara got brought to console and had to have entirely new scenes created to make up for the fact that they weren't allowed to have the original 18+ content on console, these new scenes were retroactively backported to the original Steam versions, de-listing the 18+ DLC in the process. That'd be fucking stupid. Tell me the backlash got them to remove the censorship on PC.

If you're speaking purely in the context Neptunia, you're right. If not, I'd say Death end re;Quest and Mary Skelter 2 at least are on par with VII. Those two get mentioned a lot when discussing Compile Heart's best games and I'm inclined to agree. Mary Skelter 2 was the game that got me into them, in fact.

Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters has pantyshots, Grey Sister has a design that feels like it's meant to be sexy and the other characters have revealing designs as always especially when they transform, so, basically a modern anime style game released after 2019-2020...it *has* fanservice but nothing like the Compile Heart games released several or many years ago and other games like Senran Kagura, Mary Skelter, Dark Rose Valkyrie etc.

Trust me, you're preaching to the choir here. I have been almost completely steadfast in refusing to buy post-2020 Compile Heart games that are clearly neutered for Snoy standards. I was a staunch advocate for them abandoning Playstation entirely and focusing purely on Switch/PC. Then Tokyo Clanpool happened and shot that idea all to hell with Steam and Nintendo double-teaming the release with censorship and bans, nearly causing it to be canceled completely. Even GOG which ultimately hosted the PC version would not take it uncensored. And they've been open about how damaging the whole thing was to their prospects and morale and have outright said it is not likely they'll attempt to release another game like it.
>But why would they do that?

>Our age rating as it stands for console is ESRB M-rating, PEGI 18, and USK 18 to give an idea. Still, there are other game content requirements that console platforms have in order to exist on their systems, and a portion of these changes will be visible on the PC version.
Proof it's also not purely for an age rating, either; Sony and Microsoft are forcing these changes themselves.
>Tell me the backlash got them to remove the censorship on PC.

See and that's the issue, we're only allowed really the bare minimum at this point, when in the past we were allotted much more. Remember back in mk2/Re;birth 2 when the game straight up started with the main 4 goddesses and Nepgear tied up in the Gamindustri Graveyard, or basically anything regarding Iris Heart, can't have stuff like that anymore, which now that I think about it is probably why Plutia never gets brought back, and on the rare times she does like in Cyberdimension, she's relegated to an NPC and isn't allowed to transform.

>I have been almost completely steadfast in refusing to buy post-2020 Compile Heart games that are clearly neutered for Snoy standards.
I don't fault you there one bit, personally I stopped buying anything from IF/CH after the absolute disaster that was Virtual Stars, which was when I really realized they don't give a fuck anymore, and are just looking to pawn off the IP to anyone who wants it. I wouldn't even be shocked if Neptune or one of the Sega Hard Girls appears in that new Sonic racing game given how crossover-heavy it is.

4GO was in 2017 before Snoy implemented their policies. I think they're just refusing to bring Plutia/Iris Heart back for other reasons. Either they're too cheap/poor to hire Kana for some reason (despite all the other star seiyuus they've got), or it has something to do with two of the biggest character fanbses hating her. This happened because Noire couldn't be honest about what she wanted and was dancing around the subject for what had been implied to be a long time, so Plutia took the liberty of shoving her foot up Noire's ass to make her spit it out and move the plot along. Said plot being, invade Lowee to beat up and humiliate my wife, so I have every right to complain about this, but that was N**re's desire, not Plutia's. But regardless, I am with you in that I really didn't find anything truly villainous or even really anti-heroic about Plutia's actions. She's mostly just playful and provocative, and the few times she does do something genuinely nasty, it's to someone who deserves it (e.g., Arfoire who had just kidnapped the orphans she was raising). Which is why I can't help but think most of the hate for her is driven by butthurt Noirefags and Nepgearfags who think she actually did literally rape and violate them. It's annoying because she is one of my favorite characters, and now there's a real chance she'll never come back.

The way you worded this is so much funnier than it has any need to be, and I love it.
But anyway yeah I agree with you that Plutia is a perfectly fine character, if anything I'd love to see her come back, it'd be nice for her to have some canon interactions with newer characters.

Is Plutia/Iris hate a relatively new phenomenon? I remember back in the day after VII's release everybody wanted her back and most comments about her were positive. It could be that those fans simply filtered out, but I've always thought she's very fun with a top tier design. Just a bit too OP.

I'd like to see her interact with Uzume more. Throughout VII, Uzume plays the role of a senpai of sorts to the Planeptune CPUs since she's their direct predecessor (being the Dreamcast). Well, Plutia (being the Genesis) is technically older than her, and so I'd pay to see the dynamic reverse as Plutia plays a ditzy but goodhearted senpai to Uzume. Throw Peashy in there too so tomboyish Uzume can be a team dad.
