This fact was memoryholed but it was one of the first games to successfully capitalize on Soulslike hype. The story and world is pretty much just Dark Souls in 2D.

I have played Super Metroid finally and it's a good game, but I probably wouldn't put it in my top 10 Metroidvanias and the way you all circlejerk it, I'm beginning to have my doubts about how good SotN is. Hollow Knight is the best I've played in its genre. Period. Even Silksong so far isn't holding up after 8 hours (it's still very good though)

I don't get it either. It just doesn't seem like a 10/10. I don't even remember people saying HK is in their top 10. It's a cool game and people generally like it, but it just doesn't seem to have the sauce. I think that both super metroid and sotn are overrated, but I can clearly see why some people call them their favorite games. Dark Souls with cute bugs just doesn't strike me as something deserving that much hype.

zoomers don't want to play boomer games like sotn or super metroid and silksong has just enough sheen for their soft brains
