I literally had no problem with the diagonal pogo until this point, im confused theres something fundamentally wrong with the interaction here.

I have a theory that theres a bit of delay before you pogo can actually come out after a successful pogo, for a successive pogo.

another problem ive been running into is, the feeling that pogo should have priority, what i mean is that sometimes my pogo doesnt come out and I will land on an enemy instead of pogoing, I think that must be a problem either of the delay in pogoing, or theres no startup invincibility or something.

why this is problematic?

you can be doing the exact same inputs every time, with zero reason to think one wont suddenly work, and yet it can feel random. fixing this would make things more stable and consistent.

this little miniscule thing should be justification enough on the basis of "challenge" theres suffient amount of punishing mechanics, this doesnt really add anything

(when I talked about pogo delay, the problem isnt like basic nail attack delay, which can be made consistent simply by looking at the end of the attack and a return to stand still, with pogo, its much less clear, even when the pogo has ended, you may not actually yet be able to pogo, so what you end up doing, is pogoing a bit late to overcompensate and you can miss a pogo plant by a hair.)

I like the demand of precision I just think there are some problems.

Also Id still call this fairly basic platforming, there are still yet, no real "platforming" levels. But "platforming instances".

If youve played Beyond Good and Evil I would compare it to the hover craft sections in that game. Yes there are instances where you use the hovercraft often, but yet it never really demands any moment to moment engagement beyond a single context if that makes sense.

I'm at the ant area about an hour and a half in. I'm just not having fun. Without the special feeling of discovering this little bug world for the first time, and having 100000 HK ripoffs come out in the last 7 years, it hyperfocuses all the problems. When I get stuck on a level and lose all my money and travel from a bench an entire map away over and over and over, I can get through it when I really want to keep exploring this world im seeing for the first time. In Silksong I've already seen this world more or less, so when I hit a die a few times I just get annoyed and want to stop playing. Is there a point where this changes and I go "oh, this game is new and fun and I want to push through difficult patches", or is it just more HK asking for 60 more hours of my time?

Well to the right of red ant boss is a hard red ant area where you can platform and then fight a room full of tough enemies with the map lady helping you. I died 8 times trying it so I went back to the lava area deep docks and found a new ability going down right.

Theres a door I could farm 500 beads to open under the vendor down there but I used some platforming skills and jumped to an area im not sure if there was another way to get to by pogoing off someones head in the next zone.

Now I went far up and found a little village with slums and a memory thing hidden in the watery dark sewers. To my left is a little boss mothwing who I just fought once and died. I was doing pretty good at first I thought.

I want to farm 500 for the key but the fastest way without exploring and never dying is probably near the starter zone running in a loop killing pilgrims for like +25 per loop which sucks

Depends on what you mean by non-linearity, there's many ways a game can do it. By hollow knight's example (and silksong's so far) there are literally signs with arrows that lead you toward the main objective. The only time it isn't consistent is if you need an upgrade to follow them, and even then it's not far off.

I like the idea of putting the higher difficulty ant zone in the middle of much easier areas. There’s some jumps in there that are difficult but doable without even unlocking the dash. It doesn't have the atmosphere or mystery.
The first game is one of the most atmospheric indies I've played, and the mystery of why Hallownest is in this state keeps you going.
Here, you're just taken as a prisoner to some shithole and everyone wants to go to some big city on the surface. There's less mystery and the atmosphere is meh.
It feels more like an okay expansion than a sequel.

To anyone doing the silver bells quest -
You walk around in the tunnels underneath bell town until you hear the sfx cue for a collectable, then go get your bell(s). They just sorta spawn in over time, seems like either a gold/brass bell or a silver one appears in a handful of set locations.
All you get is 120 rosary beads.

I think the mystery is hard to replicate when HK already answered a lot of the overarching mechanics of the world.

At this point people want less of a mystery and just more of the Hollow Knight universe.

for gameplay, it's much harder than hollow knight (which isn't that high of a bar, outside of the dlc hk is pretty easy). it gives you more room to choose a play style beyond just the badges from hollow knight. there's still badges, but you can also choose secondary weapons and there are some rarer unlocks that even change up your base moveset. quite a lot of customizability

there's some decently precise platforming sprinkled around that is sometimes required for progress, this is making some people rage but it's not that bad

story is a lot more "in your face", there are more settlements and npcs to talk to. hornet is not a silent protagonist and actually talks back to people and has her own personality. some people who really get hung up on the isolated atmosphere of hollow knight don't like this but it's fine imo, hornet isn't annoying at all

the scale of the world seems insane once again for a 20 dollar game, but then again i haven't beaten it yet so i guess there's potential thtat i could just turn a corner and suddenly the game is just over but i think that's extremely unlikely
