The Archetype mechanic is kind of lackluster and for a game about forging bonds, the characters just are so flat and boring. They are (again) your typical anime cutouts.
>"Look at me, I am the headstrong noble from the countryside and you get my boring backstory in the first hour of the game"
>"Look at me, I am an autistic elf girl and I just love the royal family, even though they did nothing to fix the arguably fucked up state of the world."
Even worse, you just KNOW the latter will never really have her beliefs challenged. Except maybe by a shitty villain speech, in which she goes "M-masaka" and then the whole thing will be resolved by the protagonist saying any variation of "You got to believe in yourself!". Speaking of, the villain just seems to do heinous shit for the sake of doing heinous shit.

I haven't met a single person who's played both who thinks Metaphor is better than E33. Metaphor isn't even better than Persona 5.

I mean the concept is sound and I like the dungeon crawling aspect. The music is fine too.
But everything else just feels like you have seen it 100 times before. It's kind of boring.
And I can't stress enough how much these shitty anime cardboard cutout characters annoy me. Do they have nothing else over there? Do all the people in Japan just act like anime characters so they can't even fathom people acting differently?

It definitely doesn't help that Metaphor is blatantly half finished. So even if that stuff appeals to you it's still not a very good example of it.

Yeah, and that's so disappointing because Metaphor's setting and art direction are pretty neat, I even enjoyed grinding in those towers but the Archetype system was not well implemented. The fact that ng+ doesn't carry that over, which means you'd have to redo all the social links made me drop it as soon as I finished it.

Metaphor is the straight up "ubisoft-ication" of the persona formula.

It's the first of the main Atlus games completely deprived of soul. I finished it fully only to say "that's fucking it?!!" at the end. The absolute state of the industry that this won goty.

E33 in contrast feels like one of those special games you played growing up that actually impacts you and defines your personality. Like ocarina of time, final fantasy 7 and the like. It's one of those games people will talk about the rest of their lives. Especially kids playing it right now will probably be lifetime fans and have tattoos of it.

The game peaks at the Opera House which is in the middle of the game sadly

I like Metaphor more than E33 simply because it has whimsy.

You guys only like Expedition 33 more because it's anime game with a realistic enough coat of paint that you can convince yourself it isn't anime.

I like Expedition 33 because it reminds me of a PS1 Final Fantasy game. Atlusfags need to stop being insecure.

It's the FF8 sequel I always wanted

I don't give a fuck about the art style. In fact it should be more anime.

I don't have any problem with anime. In fact, you might call me the target audience for cheap anime-slop JRPGs.
I remember being hyped for Metaphor as soon as the first trailer dropped. Its art direction is truly incredible, there's really nothing wrong with it. But then I played the demo, and found it somewhat shallow and extremely derivative.
Expedition 33, on the other hand, I saw it when it was announced, and made a mental mark to check it later, but wasn't nearly as blown away. When I actually played it, I liked it way more than Metaphor. I still think that Expedition's art direction is not quite as good as Metaphor's, but it makes up for it in literally everything else.
