how the fuck am I supposed to know I can view and rotate item in full screen

I think I discovered by complete accident that you can view models by scrolling the mouse wheel or whatever it is that activated it. I don't think the game ever has a tutorial about how it works. The interface itself doesn't even let you know it can be done if I recall right.

it's quite intuitive with how the 3D model pops up in the middle of the screen when you view it in you inventory
if you never figured out you can rotate items then you're just kinda stupid, but thats fine, doesn't make you a bad person

Here's a better question. If your door has both a number pad and a key, why are you writing the numerical code on the key?

Todd is an asshole for wasting our time looking at his ugly fucking models for no reason every time we use a claw. We have the key, just let us open the door without fucking around spinning wheels and looking through the inventory every time. It's not a puzzle, it's just a blatant waste of time.

It was a cool gimmick until you realize that every single draugr door was opened by pressing the same buttons twice each. Same with the elder scroll "puzzle" after the most interesting dungeon in the game.

It's fine. Everyone has to start somewhere. You have 3 possible choices in 3 places so the total number of possible combinations is 3 * 3 * 3. Next time you face such a problem approarch it like that.

ill admit it took me a bit to figure it out, just did trial and error to get through the door. wasnt until i saw a post on /v/ mentioning it. I'm generally a pretty good gamer who doesnt struggle with puzzles at all. The thing that confused me about this is that the previous games didnt have a method or reason to individually inspect every item 3d model so it never even struck me as a possibility. It was a new and rather random mechanic that had never been explained in the game at all. If todd talked about it then whatever, but myself and a lot of others who intentionally went into it as blind as possible would have missed it. To me it felt like a lot of early minecraft where the only way to really learn some of the shit was to read notch's dev blog and talk about it on /v/ - there was no real system in game to learn about the shit naturally.

loading tool tips are random. its entirely possible to play through several hours of the game and well past that quest without seeing that tip. also loading tips are hardly seen by people with fast computers.

iirc the book just says something about the claw being a key but doesnt explain theres a new fucking game mechanic that lets you inspect the 3d objects.
Anonymous No.719874525
I had probably like 20 hours in doing anything other than the main quest so I completely forgot that the spinning items in your inventory was a thing. Can you blame me though? The mechanic isn't literally used in anything else other than these claw ''puzzles''

Anonymous No.719875414
The issue is having gameplay elements that are used for one thing and one thing only. There's absolutely nothing else in the game that needs you to rotate or inspect an object apart from these doors.

what >>719878269 said. I did originally look but the claw was angled away from me on my first playthrough and there are no buttons indicating that you can manipulate the object in the menu. I did actually look at it but it didnt give me anything. It really was one of those things where if you didn't watch the marketing stuff for the game or were told by someone that you'd think of looking for or checking. If I had been brand new to the series I might have tried, but having played morrowind and oblivion before hand, like many others I never considered to bother checking. Be honest with yourself, did you see the marketing about the feature or the threads on /v/ when you first played or did you just naturally figure out that you could rotate objects in your inventory despite it never being explained anywhere.

Lorewise they are braindead because they are only supposed to keep the undead in.
Now why the dungeon designs have most of them outside the dragon claw doors is another story.
