Why are most people not optimistic about this game?
Is there no target audience for this?

I'd rather someone remakes FF tactics gba and takes away all story (even the FF name), expands on jobs and hub and makes that a game. Sprg/xcoms type games are way too few.

It's objectively the inferior game that nobody wanted. By pledging to have no content that wasn't in the PSX version yet all of the rewriting in the PSP version, they've committed to creating a game that nobody wants.

A remake has to be desirable in some way. This is, for all purposes both for the community and for the actual technical description of the release, a demake.

Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite game and unless they add a hard mode, gimmick modes like boss rush, or maybe a new few classes, I'm not interested. WotL is fine and I don't trust modern Square to put the effort in.

Also pretty sure Agrias gave me my fetish for female knights because she was my first vidya crush as a kid.

Yes the original is the best. The PSP version has a bit more content but has a faux-Shakespeare script that really annoys some people though. Probably would recommend the PS1 for your first playthrough though.

Translation wise? They are using an adapted WotL script for voice acting.
The base of the game is the original JP release with a tiny bit of WotL. Talking extremely tiny things like Meliadoul's skills working on monsters and being able to view the cutscenes through the State of the Realm thingy.
They added the option to flee random encounters, view the battlefield when deploying units and apparently charge time and poaching are adjusted.

The only actual version of FFT that I've played was the WotL version on PSP and that was ages ago back when it released. What content did it add over the original PS1 version?

I was not a big fan of the Tactics Ogre Reborn release. Felt like mobile. Can't complain much about mechanics because they're different every time they try to re-sell LuCT.

It was generally ok because most of it was optional. I'd argue that the cutscenes were great and so were the extra events for some for some of the characters. Multiplayer was a bit tacked on but interesting. The extra jobs were not terribly well designed but felt optional due to being very hard to get but cool to mess around with. The guest characters were meh as far as I was concerned, especially Luco because you had to encounter him iirc. Zombie Argath was easily the worst part of it that was forced upon you.

Granted, Onion Knight is useless without the multiplayer gear and BK's Fell Swords are tied to that mode, but they're OP and very much usable with regular Knight Swords. They'd have to implement them a different way.

It's consistant with the pixel remasters they didn't want to add extras for previous ports so the game stays true for the original experience.
The only older Final Fantasy I think with extras that are cool was FF4 GBA letting you use any party member for the final dungeon.

If we're going to be absolutely pedantic, they are not "working off the original". They literally lost the source code and the original and are remaking it from scratch.
It's a known issue with many Square games and for FFT they publicly stated that's the case and they are redoing stuff piece by piece and by "feel".
That said, I really don't care for them, honestly. Just grindy tacked on endgame stuff. Maybe that reverse rebirth mode they made for FF2 was an interesting take.

PSP version is a grindfest in my experience. Not a necessary one but a really annoying one that exists at every step. It can be mitigated by mods and CWCheats. Unsure about the other versions but basically each version is like a different game balance-wise.
