People started out with Hollow Knight as their first Metroidvania. If they haven't been twiddling their thumbs for the past few years and played a few more then they'd realize how backwards its design is.

I played HK around 2020, and thought it was ok. It felt completely derivative in most aspects, but the art was neat.

idk I played for a couple of hours yesterday and it seemed perfectly fine.
maybe it gets much worse later but after seeing /v/irgins crying over easy baby shit like the chained ogre and margit I find it really hard to take these kinds of complaints seriously

Wouldnt call it "honeymoon" or overrated but the devs are at fault for its horrendous lack of balance due to no real qa guys. TC are like what? 4 guys in the whole studio and since they kept this shit as secret as the fucking illuminati you can tell after playing for a while that the gameplay wasnt properly tested.
The presentation, animations are top notch but the game is needlessly hard, stingy with actual combat upgrades and health. Meanwhile after nearly 7 hours i still have 5 health, some enemies and bosses hit for 2.
Would they had a team of playtesters, especially for the opening act, the game would feel WAY better and not tedious.
Its not even about the difficult, after a while it gets extremely tedious due to long walks back to your corpse, respawning enemies that can rape you easily and annoying heal mechanics were you either heal 3 masks back and skip using skills or use skills and skip healing.

I did seethe about elden ring, it was a bad game. I literally just walked through the entire game, not a single boss posed any challenge. And Im not even great at these games, the game just seemed actually broken. It was not enjoyable, very tedious spending hours upon hours walking through just to finish it

Dark Souls are mostly good
Elden Ring seemed like a step down from all of them, a massive one from Sekiro. Sekiro was tight as hell, Elden Ring they give you so much shit they couldn't balance around it at all. God that game was boring as fuck

literally git gud. whiners are brute forcing optional areas and bosses which are clearly designed to return to later and not exploring properly. or not using their tools. if you stick to the fairly obvious golden path it's balanced well.
