Square obviously sees the benefit in a sales boost, like Mario's movie and the Fallout TV show did for their franchise's backcatalog. The games are already made and widely available, nudge it down by like $5 and get a small boost for the quarter when the show airs.
LiS:DE bombed for obvious reasons, we don't need to explore that. The funniest part of the story was months after the fact that the "cancel your preorders" campaign was not just a vocal minority, that Square-Enix sent out a survey asking people why they didn't play the newest Life is Strange. It's bewilderingly myopic.

I'm not interested in watching the show but I am interested if they might use this to course-correct an IP that was doing pretty well until it just came to a crashing halt through unforced errors.
