Why do people do this ? Steam should just make the API Private, the threads here get annoying. apparently 20k players is 0 to some people

It's not a matter of pretending they are investors, it's to show the thing they love or hate is popular or not popular because they want to feel superior over people who say otherwise.
That's all it is and that's all it will ever be.

Those threads would be replaced by ones from people selling fake estimates.
