After playing STALKER on and off for 10+ years, trying out dozens of mods including Anomaly and GAMMA but also actually good mods like OGSR, SGM, Call of the Zone and others, I finally realized that I don't actually like STALKER.
Enemies have x-ray vision and see trough everything, the difficulty setting is impossible to fine tune and mostly ends up being 1shot fest, while mutants are fucking annoying and are massive bullet sponges.
I finally realized that it's actually not a good game. I keep getting pissed off because of the shitty unfun gameplay loop. Trying to go through the Great Marsh area with packs of wild boars around every corner and xray vision enemies shooting through the ridiculously dense foliage was the last drop for me. It killed my desire to play STALKER again for the next 5 years.

Now I'm replaying Fallout New Vegas for my dose of post-apocalyptic exploration shooter and enjoying it a lot more.

I was always chasing for that "the next one will surely be the one" experience. But I just got sick of the base gameplay.

Stealth also sucks way too much in STALKER. Getting the documents from the Agroprom military base is basically the same in every single mod, regardless of gameplay modifications. Get a scoped AK variant and snipe the guards as they walk out of the gates one by one.
I get it that it's not realistic to sneak around in a military base, but fun should come first.
Sneaking sucks, AI is dumb, mutants are unfun bullet sponges. This doesn't change no matter how many mods you install.

Oh good a GOG thread I wanted to talk about it anyway. I was browsing the other day and noticed Ashes 2063 on the store page and thought "wow that's neat" until I also noticed it said "requires Doom 2 to run" which confused me cause I thought Ashes was standalone at this point.

Still kind of neat to see it there though. The more people who can enjoy (or find out they hate) it the better.
