The easiest is to just run the dedicated server executable. It should be somewhere in the game's folder (I don't have it installed right now to check). To make it pirate friendly, I think you need to block certain ports, but I'm also not remembering well. I don't even know if the server would show up in the browser now that the GameSpy master server is down. Joining by typing the IP directly should work.

It's basically the inverse of WW2. Where there you had very defined "bad guys" and a clear victory, the boys died heroically in somewhat honorable "clean" combat. Versus vietnam, the war over really nothing, that "we" lost, fighting "commies" but mostly just poor gook farm boys, and all the boys died from shit covered sticks, or hand grenades hidden in coffee cans, and hookers vaginas. It's got a very cursed mojo about it, paired with an incredible cold war aesthetic and a fucking banger sound track.

gook likely comes from a korean word "miguk"(me gook) which was korean slang for americans. So americans just started calling koreans Gooks. Korean war vets arriving in Vietnam just kept using the word and it spread.

ussr breaking up because afghanistan is a meme
But you are right that they are not equivalents

Vietnam war was the continuation of Vietnam's anti-colonial war against the west. It just happened to be the commies who kicked out the french colonialist. The west started panicking that commies all over the word will now start liberating their colonies, so the US started scheming, promising peaceful transition to independence but quickly started breaking promises and using lies to enter the war against the commies who wanted to kick out the US and their puppet dictator from the south

Meanwhile Afghan-soviet war was US arming and training rebels to overthrow socialist afghanistan, who then asked the soviets for help, but shortly after the government was overthrown and the soviets kind of "overstayed their welcome" by insisting on restoring this government, even tho said government no longer formally existed. US went nuts arming and training and propping up what became the modern middle eastern radical /terrorist movement (that didn't exist before they did this), including the al-qaeda.

Nah, what gets boring is the constant, unending "Russia vs US" or "Random fictional middle eastern country vs US" that most modern shooters default to. It's not a long game, either. I'm fine with a 4-6 hour campaign set in a war that, to my knowledge, has never had a single video game adaption (First Indochina war). You can keep your modern tacticool slop though.

I haven't played the first Hell Let Loose so i don't know what to expect, I'm only assuming that this game is the Battlefield Vietnam that i always wanted. Or maybe it's more milsim? i have no idea what that means. Because some people call Rising Storm 2 milsim even though it's not completely hardcore. It's just hardcore for already casualized FPS game standards.

CoD won't do anything risky. Vietnam isn't covered in video games much because all the KGB installed 'peace activists' in the hippy movements of the 60s and 70s now work in video game studios, or at least the parents offspring who they passed their values (propaganda) onto are those people. If you find a good group you can recreate any experience, from patrolling in river boats, conducting air assaults, engaging in major set piece battles like Ia Drang, and most of all (and its something a lot of new vietnam games don't try to do), going on quiet platoon sized patrols actually having to find the enemy.
