To some people, like emulator developers, "game preservation" just means being able to run games you legally bought, and fuck anyone who doesn't have a copy. So really, their preservation interest is exclusively in preparing for a future in which all of the consoles are broken but all of the game discs are miraculously intact (and everyone has the special hardware to dump them, of course).
To others (e.g. CD Projekt), "game preservation" means altering games so that they run on Windows 11.
I think most people know that actual game preservation is about making sure that playable copies of games continue to exist after they're abandoned by the copyright holders, but you can't talk about that if you're a potential target for DMCA attacks.
