Humans, throughout their life, exist on a spectrum of varying impulse control. As children, we have virtually none and, depending on how we're raised, we gain more or less of it through education etc. in our formative years. Adults are thus expected to have some amount of impulse control greater than that of a child or teenager. Even among adults, however, the expectation varies depending on age and other factors, like gender, culture, profession, and the current emotional challenge someone is facing. Here we come to the point about video games. Losing impulse control over a video game is seen as equivalent to the impulse-control levels of a child or teenager in virtually all societies because video games are still considered not serious enough to warrant a loss of impulse control, even if you're competing in 6-figure tournaments. Truth be told, in most 1st-world countries, there are very few scenarios where you can publically have a meltdown without people considering it unwarranted. Philosophically, you can probably trace this back to the rationalisation of societies and the suppression of emotion, among other things, though we are currently seeing pushback against this in many countries.
