I played that but reached a part where I was told I needed to be captured to progress. There was nowhere else to go so I tried surrendering to a random enemy but died instead. Never played it again

your dumbass needs to understand that game designers have pretty much stopped innovating in the last 20 years and just copy and paste the same design documents from other popular titles and whatever they learn from crusty old professors in college.
i am not mad about the remake in any way, but it is closer to a remaster than a remake. barely any major design changes from the subsistence release because designers haven't really moved the needle since it came out.
