are these worth or nah
Anonymous No.719912489
I actually want to buy one of these to try the mods for them.

Not the wifi mod, though, that's too fucking hard for a novice solderer.

Yeah. According to Nintendo, I have like ninety of them.

I played through Kid Icarus Uprising for the first time via those Wii Minis.

I think I tripled my 3DS library thanks to Wii Minis.

My account was banned for doing this exploit.

Yeah. All of them who did the exploit were. But it was getting shut down anyway. That was the point.

man, I remember seeing these sold in a Canadian Walmart once for around $100 or so, and I remember passing on it. I just didn't see the point in them, when I could get a full sized Wii for roughly the same price.

I actually love the design of this thing, would get one for looking at it for hours.

Just don't look at the TV it's connected to because it's fucking composite-only.

Can be hacked with Bluebomb, so yes. You get no online connectivity unless you get the Ethernet dongle and modify the firmware.

I only used the exploit once, I didn't want to risk getting caught.

Worth it. I got three Smash 4 posters that way.

I wanted the Majora's Mask messenger bag, but got banned when I was like one or two more Wii Minis away from being able to claim it. I just looked up the bag on eBay, and it actually looks like shit, so I'm not too upset.

You can also install the wifi module but it's easily the most difficult mod you can do to it (it involves surface mount components that are tiny). The SD card mod requires more rudimentary soldering and the component video mod uses a prebuilt PCB.

Wii Minis are only worth it if you enjoy installing hard mods on consoles.

Otherwise no, stock Wii Minis are pieces of shit and aren't really cheaper than real Wiis anyway.
Anonymous No.719914502
The design is cool but it's just so crippled. No component, no WiFi, no SD. And the original Wii is pretty compact to begin with.

Why the fuck would anyone bother? Just buy a regular goddamn Wii. It already does all the things you'd have to mod back into the Mini.
Anonymous No.719914609
>>719914506
Well it actually does more because unless you buy the "Family" version it works with GameCube controllers and memory cards.

The Wii Mini is by far the purest form of modding something simply for the fun of it and the satisfaction of modifying hardware. You're right; just buy a regular Wii if you want to just get something that works. But if you have an affinity for opening stuff up and attaching things to a motherboard then making the Wii Mini more capable is one of the best things to ply your time towards.

We had a megathread when an exploit surfaced for the old school Club Nintendo (the one that sent cool merch to your house, not the gay and retarded My Nintendo in the Switch). Basically, they allowed you to redeem coins by registering your console's serial number, but they wouldn't check whether the number was actually real.

What I did is that I made a little python script that bruteforced many serial numbers. To my surprise, it worked: I got enough coins to redeem for a set of Smash 4 posters that way (because otherwise you need to seriously pig out on nintendo stuff to be able to redeem anything worthwhile).

Of course, they caught up to it and they banned all of the accounts that used the exploit. Still worth it.
