Oysters were added with Chronicles that act as shoreline gold that fishing boats can mine. I don't remember what the rate is, but I think it's comparable to a regular gold mine. Villagers can harvest them too if its on a walkable tile.
One of the recent patches also added foxes as a land animal that can be hunted by villagers for small amounts of gold. I think it's like 50 gold total or something.
