There are a few. Chapter 4-2 has the beam puzzle. They have the same level of difficulty as RE4's puzzles.

Buying things between chapters worked for the kind of game it is honestly. It's based around co-op so two dudes being in the same location in the same menu at all times wouldn't work as well.

Because once again it's a co-op game, they had to split the loot across two partners to balance the game..

Sounds very similar to RE4 honestly, I like RE4 too and it's one of my favorite games but RE5 is really no different in this regard.
