Ask yourself, would todays generation of gamers really consider buying a new console for Sonic, or one of the other SEGA IPs? Best you would have is ATLUS to give it slight leverage with Persona
I can't see an outcome that wouldn't result in a complete financial loss for SEGA

Consoles are basically just locked-down pre-built desktops now with slightly custom hardware. The only way a new player(or old player wanting back in) can enter this market, is to bet on their brand and infrastructure. Sega as a brand has deteriorated so much they can't do that, and they don't have infrastructure - they'd have to build it up from scratch.

Sega are not big players in the industry as they were in the 80s and 90s. Their IPs are mostly dead and forgotten. They are pretty much just a publisher now, with most of their internal studios long gone, and their internal talent either dead (Reiko Kodama), or no longer working for them (Yu Suzuki and a bunch of others).

What if Sega were to release a new console that has better graphics than PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and the new Virtua Fighter game would be multiplatform, but would run best on the new Sega console.

They would need to spend the next 10-15 years cultivating a popular primary title for each major genre via consistent 8/10 minimum releases.
Then once they have a full roster of franchises with dedicated fanbases you pivot into exclusivity to bait them over to your new system.

The absolute frothing demand for remakes of old games is huge right now, look at the success of indie ripoffs that you can find by the truckload on steam.

If they made a new console and just pumped out nothing but sequels to their old properties (cheaply) they would probably find success because rubes will eat up any "IP/Franchise" that they recognise.

What could SEGA do to make hardware that can compete with other consoles while still being a budget option? If SEGA makes a new disc format then the price of software will go up. Likewise if SEGA makes their console too cheap with non-competitive hardware then outside of indies there will be no third party support.

I'd like to see SEGA pull off a new cartridge format that works like interchangeable SSDs while having hardware to compete with Nintendo. SEGA can even have the cartridge slot work on PC if the console fails.

I'm thinking. If I want to make a SEGA console then I would make a system called "the universal arcade". What do I mean by that? The universal arcade is a modular system where you can change both inputs and games which are plug and play. Games come on carts that you swap. USB and bluetooth will let you use just about any input device you want from steering wheels to Genesis and Saturn replica controllers, to modern game controllers, to keyboard and mouse.

Yes, Sega creates a tablet and markets it to Gen Alpha. Runs on Android but with a Sega-exclusive play store packed with Sega-themed cheap clickbait mobile games. They can license and air all their Sonic cartoons and movies on an app specifically dedicated to Sega videos. All they need to do is make their killer app something like Roblox but explicitly Sonic-themed and now they'll have the coolest toy on the market. Use it as (another) opportunity to create a "greater Sega universe" with Nights, Samba de Amigo, Crazy Taxi, etc.

The most interesting total-retard money-pit blue-sky thing SEGA could do is release a home arcade machine.

It would have to be a full-sized thing, with it's own high quality monitor and controls. Some kind of decently powered embedded PC system that can match a Switch 2.

The whole idea is that people are bored with the same old form factors and the idea of having a brand new SEGA arcade cabinet in their home is an interesting novelty that builds on everything the home arcade community has already established. So all the arcade1up nuts would of course buy one, and all the SEGA nuts too, and maybe a lot of the FGC because it would be styled after a Astro City or VS City cabinet and be full sized and suited for tournaments. Then you hold the official Virtua Fighter 6 world championship on these cabinets giving them some cache.

You'd price it high. At least $1000, probably more.

No. All Sega consoles were flops because Sega wasn't in the console business like Nintendo or Sony were. Sega wanted to bring arcades to home and they were primarily arcade guys. The real reason why Sega failed is they couldn't adapt to the console market becoming its own thing and not simply an arcade at home. By the time they tried to pivot away from that, it was too late.
