Real hardware SUCKS
>PS1
Bought a copy of Crash Bandicoot. It always crashes on Hog Wild and Cortex Power no matter what. Even after getting the disc cleaned/resurfaced. Have to use passwords to get past them.
>N64
Resolution is dogshit and blurry, N64 Expansion Pak can sometimes lose connection, Controller Paks and Rumble Paks also have finicky pins, not to mention the cartridges themselves.

Emulation is so much better

Sounds like you had a scratched disc, not a bad ps1.

Yeah but that's still an aspect of using real hardware

do you have a CRT? Certified Retard Television?
Anonymous No.719925159
That's a good point and you're more likely to get problems since it's expensive at that point too, older, more expensive, shitter deal as time goes on.

N64 looks fine on my CRT, modern tvs you better buy something like a retroscaler and get S-Video cables
>expansion pak lose collection
never happened to mines
>finicky pins
i have a performance pak that lets you use 4 paks in one, its kinda faulty with some games but it has worked for me fairly fine (beat quake 64, toy story 2 and twine)

What the fuck does that even mean? Mine has been in my system for the last 10 years. The only time mine was ever out of my system after buying Majora's Mask was to replace the thermal pad in the Expansion Pak and the pads in the system.

The nice thing about the Performance 4 in 1 is that the battery isn't soldered, and for the few games that have issues with it, you can just use the regular Performance memory cards. Best kept secret in 64 collecting, those.

>3-decade-old equipment doesnt perform perfectly
no shit
some tips for non-faggots:
acquire the following and use them
>contact cleaner
>fiberglass pen
>spare parts
>a soldering iron
>a screwdriver
you want retro on real hardware? be prepared to put the work in, otherwise you can go slum it on emulators with the rest of the plebs

Turn your PlayStation upside down or if you're spindle is too weak tilt the left side up on 2 VHS tapes, stupid casual.

I mean, as far as the Playstation goes, an Xstation clone is like, $50 shipped to your house and a new disc drive laser is like, $20. Beyond that the only thing that can fail is a couple capacitors.

you do know that you can emulate at different resolutions?

its actually smarter emulating as it future-proofs your games, its the way everyone in the future will play classic games too

Yeah, I have actually replaced the battery of it.
I do have an old ass controller pak too, no idea if it still saves.

Had no idea clones existed. Have a PS1 with a completely fucked cd drive in my basement, might get one lol.
Do the clones have good compatibility?

I actually don't know, I haven't tried one as they came out after I got one. I saw a few floating around on Aliexpress when I was looking at Summercarts.

Ah I'll have to read around. I just burn CDs for my working psone atm, but once in a while I get FMV issues like every cinematic working fine in Klonoa except the credits, which is one long unskippable cutscene and paused like every 3 seconds. Took like 10 minutes to get through it after beating the last boss.

Was also looking at summercarts funnily enough, but I also need an expansion and controller pak for my 64.

I have the same issue; this could be something on the laser built in, not the laser itself. In my case calibrating it does nothing. Basically; the piece that moves the laser when loads rusts leading to skips (FMV, loading, music). In my case it even sounds "watery" instead the lovely buzzing sound of the console loading it should have

I have never, EVER had a problem with accesories or cartridges, you can use a little degrassing/rust fluid poured on a little folded paper and a credit card to clean them

>>719927876
Like other anon and I said, the Performance memory cards for the 64 have a coin battery holder, so you don't need to dick around with an FRAM mod or desoldering the battery. The FMV issues could be because of burn speeds. If you can get your hands on a DVD drive that can burn CD-Rs at 2x speed, you should. The PSone systems have a pretty well made disc drive. I've never even seen one of those die like the fat models, but I guess it can happen. Xstation isn't compatible with the slim systems.
