As someone who grew up mainly with PS1(and Atari Jaguar don't ask), when my friend had N64 we went and played there some MK64 and og Smash, and when we were at our place we played CTR and Tekken. PS2 and GC was same kind of deal, tho I ended up having GC later as I never moved to PS3. Still when I didn't have I played FUCKTON of Kirby Air Ride and Melee at my friend's place, and we played stuff like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 co-op on PS2. Mostly tho Runescape and Heroes of Might and Magic 3 on our shitty PCs.
Maybe your attitude where kids have /v/-tier attitude about people who have different consoles than themselves was more of an American thing as I have heard people unironically have Apple vs Android things going on, but here in Finland where majority of people had Playstation, only the most low IQ idiots with no actual personality or hobbies were the ones who even tried to argue what console is better etc.
Yeah everyone had favs and some people moved to mainly PC after PS3 or PS4, but especially as kids people didn't give af if you had different console, because it just meant more cool games to play with your friends with.
