What are some real Waterworld type games?
Diving suits, submarines, open oceans and weird sea creatures...

I swear I tried to like Subnautica but the Survival Crafting gameplay is so fucking dull in it

Barotrauma has all four, but is best enjoyed with friends. Kind of a proto-friendslop in hindsight, I suppose. There are AI submarine crewmen but they're uh... a bit retarded.

Time and Tide has an English TL
You play as Hayami as he actively refuses to take part in the plot (like in the start of the OVA), it's a simple diver game where you take on salvages/missions to make money, to buy better equipment, etc.

I haven't actually played the other game (Antartica), haven't found an English TL but it's the one GONZO seemed to promote way more.
