I don't like hammer in Rise
Capcom destroyed hammer. It was perfect in world. Perfect. Now you have two charge stances and it's weird. You have to dodge out of blue stance to yellow stance to do more damage with silkbind attack. That's wack. Water strike is wack. Flow charging is wack. Hammer used to be simple, now it's not.

They destroyed my boy.

You don't have to do anything fagget. You can still play crit draw level 3 charge gs as if it's 2008.
You can still fish for stuns then go into golfswing.

Hunt times nearly tripling because you refuse to fucking clutch claw wallbang every single available opening and the monsters having grossly inflated HP and defense values that borders on fucking Apex numbers in 4U that can only be resolved by {Gimmick} isn't fucking fun, nor is it hunting the monster because instead you're fighting the fucking game itself instead.

Making every weapon as irritatingly complex as Charge Blade used to be and doping the monsters so that the only feasible way you can enjoy fighting them is by playing the way the GAME wants you to and it actively fucking punishing you for not doing so is the hallmark of game devs huffing their own colons and no longer caring about making a game that their playerbase will actively enjoy. But you don't need any more evidence that this is fact considering the team keeps shoving unskippable story faggotry down everyone's throats despite it being the number one criticism from both World and Wilds, and they have actively commented that it's the new direction moving forward no matter what.

Because Rise is just as much at fucking fault at shoving infuriating gimmick shit down your fucking throat and actively punishing you for not playing the way it wants
>spiritbirds
>sword and shield, hammer, hunting horn, and insect glaive go full fucking retard with silkbinds to the point that not using them is effectively griefing your hunting party and intentionally kneecapping your hunting times--to the point you quite literally cannot perform even remotely decent in endgame content because the monsters digested 50 kilos of cocaine and you MUST use the silkbinds or either get carted repeatedly OR lose to the quest timer
>rampages, literally EVERYTHING about rampages
>qurio anomaly rng grinding

It did some amazing things for the rest of the weapons, to be sure, and contrary to my point above the drill stab is easily the best thing to come to the SnS in spite of the silkbind faggotry, but let's not be the kind of retards who claim 4U is the best game in the series that lacks any and all real flaws when it had relic weapon faggotry and Apex monsters were beyond obnoxious because of the wystones.

Courage Hammer uses 0 silkbinds. You can use the impact balls ever 2 minutes but it's no different from any other buff.
Anonymous No.719944580
Frontier Hammer will always be the absolute lowest point for Hammer in the entire series. Not only is it weak but it's also extremely unfun to play. The best part? Their response to it being the most guttershit weapon in the game? You think they would buff it right? Nope. They instead introduced Mag. Spikes which completely outclass it

It was world that introduced power charge making regular charge useless. Rise gave regular charge some purpose with the stance switch. Raw power hammer being impact crater focused is boring but courage ele hammer is much more fun than whatever world and ib did. The real offender is wilds hammer as you cannot launch people anymore with your attacks.

Is Generations Ultimate a good starter point for monhun if I want the "classic"ish experience? I know people say World is decent but I like the idea of playing a more traditional one with a fuckload of content to chew on.

Absolutely. The Ryujinx fork works fine and these days I'm only using my Deck to play GU. Although there are bugs that lock up the Switch keyboard and make it hard to look for active rooms.

I liked it, but didn't get into the endgame and just played "Guild" style (I.E. classic movesets). I've heard people say that doing endgame stuff without using the more OP styles is basically impossible, but I have no idea if that's true or just shitter cope. That said, it'll probably take a couple hundred hours to reach endgame if it's your first MH, during which you can definitely just play it like classic MH.

it's definitely not true. Back then I solo'd basically every single level 15 deviant using guild style. There are some attacks that are pretty bullshit to use without absolute readyness/dodge though (mostly applies to the top tier deviants like diablos tho)

World hammer's annoying buff that you lost when you flinched was retarded and made it one of the worst-feeling iterations of hammer in the entire series. Rise just tried to make that awful idea more interesting, giving the weapon a bit of optional depth if you wanted to engage with it. If you didn't then you could still play it the same way as before. In fact, with Strength after its buffs it's probably close to optimal to just ignore all the new shit and play it like world hammer but without needing to reapply power charge after a flinch. Nothing was lost, they just added more ways to play the weapon.

>Is Generations Ultimate a good starter point for monhun if I want the "classic"ish experience?
Yes, but be aware that Valor, Adept and Hunter arts are a huge crutch and deviation from classic monhun and only become balanced much later in the game vs the ultra endgame Deviant monsters.
World is a decent starting place too.
I would recommend either of those games first, or even Rise, before you go out of your way to emulate any other game. And do not fall for the FU memes. FU is only if you've played 4U / 3U / P3rd and you really really really liked it and want more.
Never play Tri. Tribabs are retarded contrarians that defend a game with the smallest monster and weapon roster because no one else would defend such a horrible shitstain. And don't play Wilds.

>get carted repeatedly OR lose to the quest timer
Sounds like a you problem, I just grugged through the game without thinking with hammer. Most of hammer's silkbinds don't even do anything stop you from carting and the quest timer is extremely generous considering how fast the vast majority of monsters die in Rise.

Ignore everyone saying to start with other games, GU is basically the ultimate classic style game and the best starting point. With the style and arts mechanics you can also tailor the difficulty to what you personally want.
The monster roster also has a solid chunk of monsters from each generation as well as almost all of the flagships and Elders from each game barring Cedeus for obvious reasons.

If anyone said soloing EX deviants was impossible they are a brainless retard that would have never beat the game without an internet connection.
That being said, they're tough and definitely very hard depending on your weapon. Valor GS / LS / HBG will make most of them pretty easy, but something normal like Guild or Strike SA will be pretty damn tough, and something retarded like Aerial HH will be close to impossible for some of them.
