Look bro I really don't care that much
The fanfiction is really good. I've seen some of the retranslation projects and they all seem to make the characters less dynamic than in the original localization because translating Japanese to English seems to always make things way too formal.
Perhaps I would feel differently if I knew Japanese and could experience the authentic as-written SoA which has some kind of ethereal transcendental quality which absolutely defies translation, but I can't, and that's too much effort for the result, so it doesn't matter.
As for the Grandia II comparison, so what? I don't care about authenticity as long as what I am experiencing is good. Grandia II was fun but I didn't find the characters nearly as engaging as the SoA characters, so the point is moot.
