The robot suit being a bit smaller doesn't make it not a robot suit. It's the same shit as the first game. The devs themselves referred to the arsenals from that as "large armor" and they behaved as such during gameplay and cutscenes. There's arguably more cool robot stuff in this game than the first one.

When I played the first I was immensely disappointed by it, it had all the ingredients of a great mecha game but it just felt so fucking shit in so many ways like the actual game part of it was a complete after-thought. When I saw this sequel going for powered armor I had a glimmer of hope because I thought the devs had realized the deep flaws of their designs but nope, it really felt like everything wrong with the first game now in a big map. Yay.

Like sure I'm no mecha game buff but how could I be? This genre is just so fucking cursed, nothing can ever be really good for once.
Gundam Evolution despite being Overwatch with dashes was pretty nice but Bamco pulled the plug before any of its shortcomings could be fixed, Mecha Break feels real fucking great for once but despite having the potential for proper PvE or story mode they bet on extraction bullshit and the shittiest most retarded matchmaking engagement bullshit of filling ranked with bots boosting everyone into the highest ranks, meanwhile AC6 fell harder for the stupid trend of "this other bar may as well be the boss's actual HP bar" harder than anyone else in the industry.
It's all just so tiresome, man.

The demo convinced this game was not worth a cent over $20. Massive performance issues on both PS5 and PC, dogshit graphics, and low tier gameplay. The devs were retarded for thinking this should be $70, especially after how bad the first game was. And releasing it within a week or two of about 10 other major games is beyond foolish.

People like the Metroid games and Samus, but generally not specifically because they're into power suits. There's a whole group of people who are interested in mechs specifically, that doesn't really exist for power armor.
Mecha fans were the only reason the first DxM got any traction at all. They've abandoned that in favor of power armor, which was an extremely stupid decision because there are almost no power suit fans and they never came up with any other selling points to compensate.

It's fine if you don't like this specific kind of mech, but it's really not that different than the bigger variety. I don't even see this as a power armor game, it just feels like any other custom mech game only the mechs happen to be power armor this time around. Also, saying there are almost no power armor fans is insane considering the popularity of the Iron Man movies in the west and the henshin hero genre in the east.

The problem is that AC6 actually came out, so DxM needed to change in order to stand out. Does anyone know what japs thought about the power armor? /v/ is the only place I've seen that is this vocal about the change.

I've been keeping track of the JP side since the demo came out because they're more likely to find cool tech and nobody over there seems to give a shit about the power armor vs mech thing. I don't think I've seen a single japanese person complaining about that specifically. In fact, I've seen more praise for it than anything since power armor fits the open world better from a game design perspective and, like you said, they needed some way to stand out from Armored Core. Everyone is still complaining about performance/loading though, and I've seen quite a few people asking for gyro. There are some complaints about difficulty (or lack thereof) and other miscellaneous gameplay issues too.

Also because of the ugly boring characters, the town that was an absolute slog to slowly cinematically walk through, being a loot game where loot made you worse because of the most insane scaling system every conceived, guns feeling generally weak etc

The power suits were absolutely the best thing the game had going for it. They moved well, the flight was great and the mp ability combo system was satisfying, but that falls apart if you don't have anyone playing your slog of a game.

I played and enjoyed the first DxM and the power armor thing doesn't bother me at all. It's like a knight in armor except it's mechanized sci-fi armor. As far as game-play is concerned, you're just a small mech. I haven't bought DxM2 yet but the demo was alright so maybe I'll get it later after I'm done with my current game. My biggest issue is actually that the character creator is basically pointless with how limited the options are. Females need height and chest sliders, they should've just fully went with a fixed MC if they wanted to keep the CC this limited.

To me, idgaf. Even in AC6, I thought the game seemed more like anime mecha at which point, why would power suits be any different? They play the same regardless. Big chunky mechs isn't fun for most people because it drastically slows down gameplay to be more tactical.

I would want the chest slider for flat chests, not big ones. I just used the default dude for the demo because it's not worth using a female character if I can't make them a loli. With how much voice and personality they gave him, it feels like they wanted to have a fixed MC to begin with which would've been better than a half-assed character creator.

NTA, but the only difference between AC6 mechs and DXM suits is scale, and the level design of AC6 never makes you feel like you're in a giant machine. They are both just anime robot suits that move like humans. Mechwarrior actually captures the feel of piloting a vehicle.
