My main complaint thus far is the lack of build variety.
I've got like, seven or eight charms so far - but they aren't really interesting.
They're divided into two categories for some reason, idk.
I miss mix-and-matching charms and fucking around with weird configurations.
> There's plenty of build variety, what about the tools
Eh, there's nothing wrong with the tools, but I've been hardwired to only expend limited resources as a dire last resort - which is short hand for 'I'll basically never use them'.
Its a habit that I can't shake, but the unavoidable cost of that is I simply don't care for the Tools.
Also, I may be mistaken but I don't believe the any of the equipment actually effects each other's functionality in any way either - which is a bit of a letdown.
My only other complaint is how you can really feel that this game started its existence as a DLC for hollow knight.
The game isn't a metroidvainia - it feels incredibly linear and straightforward.
Sure, you get new methods of traversal as the game progresses - but there aren't many cases where you return to a region to access areas previously inaccessible to you.
Those new modes of traversal are almost exclusively used for progressing into new areas.
You unlock shortcuts here and there, but I don't really have a reason to use them.
Aside from the fact that they aren't all that convenient, there are simply no unexplored spaces on my map to motivate me to go back.
