I need to play more because I only beat the game on hard with ds + tried a bunch of trials. Once you get into the flow of it, I feel like being able to dash into enemies for a quick stun + cancel out of wind path and general strings make ryu more op than ever before. Though maybe I'll change my tune once I get into MN proper

Razor's Edge is still worse than Black, you're too offensively overpowered with the chain boner executions. Bosses are worse as well.

3RE is pretty good. But NG2 (2008) is still the king. NGB is a puzzle game not an action game.

They built very fun combat and put it in a game that it basically doesn't work in. That T-Rex boss is the single worst boss fight of all time. I don't think there is a more awful, unfun, broken pile of shit than that. A truly miserable experience. And yeah, the reused Jack of Blades fight is terrible too. The boss fights in the game were just awful, I can't think of a single one that was tolerable let alone fun.

Razors edge is great. Like 2 before it and black before that it filters fags. It just so happens some of these fags are fans of 2 and 1 too.

The only outright awful are the Spider Tank, The Fighter Jet and the Final Boss.
The dinosaur, the prototype goddess and the mecha wheel chair guy are fine.
Regent of the Mask is excellent and so is Doppleganger.

Wrapping up the tests of valor in NG2 on MN, just one more to go in ch11, it's been kind of disappointing, because only 3/8 were an actual challenge, those being the ones in ch3, 5 and 6.
Out of those, I still managed to get the ch5 one relatively fast (dogs & werewolves), but the one in ch6 with the marionettes and flying robots was absolute misery.

Reflecting on this, 3RE probably has the hardest content in the series, with some of its ToV's and and Ultimate Trials.

That first one is pretty doable, use heavy counter on the clone, which leads into izuna/rolling drop. For the second wave with epigonos (stronger clone) if you delimb the ninjas, you can chain steel on bone from them into epigonos. Have you beaten the game on UN yet? If you haven't, it's probably best to do that first.

They don't like it because it's the most Ninja Gaiden of the Ninja Gaidens. It's the hardest most demanding one with the most to offer that is the most punishing of those who want to coast by with a few overpowered moves. Even its own cheese tactics are more demanding, less reliable and less rewarding than the other games, despite them trying to lie about it. And they lie about every part of it, the few areas they say its weaker in are either not true at all or still far better than the rest of the series. The only genuine criticisms that could be floated are having less weapons than S2 even with how many more moves each weapon does have.
It's simply the best.

Are the skull challenges intended for new game+ or something? I can't imagine being able to beat the first challenge and Doku with the default max health. It's so much harder than anything in the entire game, at least on Hard difficulty

In UN I beat, I think 3 of them (stopped at Volf) they're insanely unbalanced. I had to use health upgrades for almost all of them. The real issue is the boss at the end. I get that it's a gauntlet, but man. A checkpoint at the boss or some would've been nice because the activity of fighting boss vs fighting hordes of enemy is completely different both by your reflexes and thinking

It has by far the best gameplay of the series (and of any action game), it's just the levels are so fucking bad. The exception is day 5 which I think is the one time NG actually has a cool narrative and good level design. The boss fights are also all the worst in the series with the exception of Regent, who only looks better because he is simply "bad" and not absolute fucking trash.
