Not even Nintendo can escape the unfortunate reality of having to use off the shelf parts to build your console because you arent gonna be spending billions in R&D just to do the same thing other bigger companies are already doing by themselves.

As it turns out, spending hundreds of millions on custom hardware to achieve the same results as off the shell hardware, only consuming more power, generating more heat and being significantly less efficient every single step of the way, is fucking stupid.

I think it's time to abandon the normal console for a switch 2 format.

The only thing they need to focus on is path tracing tech. Everything else could be a marginal improvement.

specialized hardware was doomed to die out as common PC components got more capable, no point in making devs learn your special snowflake architecture just to get the same or worse results as a bog standard x64 APU

Custom CPU architectures were too difficult to code for as has been proven by the ps3 cell fiasco, didn't help either the fact that only the xbox sdk was in proper english so all the world can more or less understand it.
