Thoughts on this almost 4 years later?

second best 2d metroid in my book. I'm surprised a modern european studio managed to pull it off.

It's almost flawless, tight and smooth controls, fast paced, actually good conclusion, ravenbeak kino. Solid game.

It's really fucking good.

The EMMIs are overused gimmicks and the OST is forgettable but overall I enjoyed Dread.
Anonymous No.719991419 [Report]

Still excellent.

... Y'know, sometimes it still feels weird to realize that Metroid Dread is a real video game that actually exists.

Fun from start to finish. Played through Dread Mode and the boss rush as well
Anonymous No.719993594 [Report]
Excellent work, hopefully they are working on 6 rn and will have it ready 2027 latest. Hopefully (and almost certainly) they have new and better gimmicks than LE STEALTH and shit though

One of the worst and most forgettable Metroid games, anyone claiming otherwise is completely delusional and not a real Metroid fan
Anonymous No.719994628 [Report]
I replayed it after I got the switch 2. It's still very good and feels like a very compact package. I almost never felt like there was any boring segments that I wish I could just get over with. Emmis are poorly made for instilling "dread", but it's a fun exercise in blasting through and out maneuvering them.
The resolution is unfortunately very noticeable.

I wish there had been less handholding in the world design
Anonymous No.719994810 [Report]
Music sucks, repeated boss fights are annoying and needs a Switch 2 patch for a 4k or 120 FPS option but otherwise kino. Beat it 13 times and waiting on another direct to see if it gets a patch.
Anonymous No.719994885 [Report]
terrible and boring like every other metroid game

It's a piss poor metroid game, should have been space ninja gaiden or symphony of the nebula or whatever but not metroid.

i dont like the blue and white

It's great on all fronts, other than music. Music is a pretty big deal for Metroid, and it's not bad per se, but it doesn't really stand out.
Anonymous No.719996560 [Report]
>>719990779 (OP)
Big step up from SR, still unremarkable, biggest sin is the lack of memorable music. Emmi sections were pretty gay. It was nice that sequence breaks made a return, but after a month or so dropped it and never felt the urge to replay again. Parries are still really fucking gay. Raven beak was a pretty fun boss, all the suits looked like shit. Hopefully if we do get a metroid 6, it isn't made by these fucking siestaniggers.

This game proved nintendo can do still do tight level design. Why did they make zelda into open world slop
Anonymous No.719996918 [Report] >>719998129
>all these positive replies

for a while i thought this game caught a lot of shit for the more linear approach to the map

i personally didnt mind it

I tried to sequence break and got lost and it's frustrating me

/v/ did love it. When it came out, everyone was praising it, which of course means now people feel obligated to shit on it.

i bought this when it first came out, played first 2 hrs and kept dying a lot, never went back to it and its still collecting dust on my shelf

Just beat it this week, it was fun. Best Metroid easily, they finally figured out how to have fun boss fights and the finale was kino.
Anonymous No.719997672 [Report]
My only issues are I wish the level design was less linear at times and the Emmi sections are annoying on replays, I wish there was more escalation to the Emmi sections other than just "they get a new gimmick each time". It would've been cool if one suddenly broke out of one of the sections and chased you through a non-Emmi part of the map.

That said Raven Beak is the best boss fight in the entire series.

Linear + stealth bullshit + parry nonsense + embarrassingly short (+ 3x price compared to every better game of the genre)
Anonymous No.719998215 [Report]
I fucking hate Metroidvania and I enjoyed it quite a bit, take from that what you will
Anonymous No.719998574 [Report]
Enjoyed the fuck out off it and it has the best movement system of any metroid.
I didn't like the EMMI sections at all, they where trying to invoke the spirt of SA-X but it was just boring, and eventually you defeated the SA-X, you never get to fight an EMMI on equal fighting, gotta get the magical space laser and blow his head off.

So I guess it's safe to say that Mercury Steam is working on another one. The thing is a third entry needs something fresh to make it stand out. I'd like to see a 2d metroid that turns 3d when you enter certain places.

Anonymous No.720000496 [Report]
>>719990779 (OP)
Too linear (literally can't backtrack until the final checkpoint). Stealth sections are awful (the parry timing is randomized when they catch you, so the game just wants to kill you and waste your time). Boss fights are fun, but they're not the reason I play metroidvanias. Huge miss IMO.

this game isn't really even that linear
it just randomly blocks off the ability to backtrack quite a few times, which is a decision I personally don't get at all

did anyone notice how Raven Beak used all those upgrades from Samus Returns?
In Phase 1 he has Lightning Armor, Phase 2 he uses Burst Beam, and the zipping around he does in the final Phase is could be seen as that Time Shift.

Anonymous No.720002306 [Report]

Gameplay and story are great. Samus looks the best she's ever looked.
The music is trash and the environments are dull as hell. And those are hugely important to a series about exploration.
The results are a pretty forgettable game.

Great. I still play it regularly.
Anonymous No.720002497 [Report]
last time I played Dread, I ended up having to fight Z-57 without the Space Jump or even the Double Jump
I had to use fucking bomb jumping to avoid that double arm swing, it was a fucking nightmare

Crap.
-Weapons are useless and are only there to set up a "parry".
-Forced stealth is tedious. Metroid is meant to be about exploration, not sneaking around because you're a pathetic harmless woman.
-The audio was crap.
-Boss battles were a monotonous case of trial and error until you accidentally trigger a QTE
-The game interrupts you to have the camera zoom in on things you can interact with, instead of just letting you play.

It did not feel like a metroid game at all, outside of some superficial visual presentation. The second you start playing it, it feels wrong.
Nintendo really need to stop outsourcing their games.

Best post in this thread.
Anonymous No.720005823 [Report]
The stealth sections were stupid because it was much easier and faster to just bait the EMMI and then run away. Other than that, pretty good.

Great game but after 2 full playthroughs I still got to go with Super Metroid, Fusion and Zero Mission as the better Metroid games. Still though if the Dread style games needs to be the future for 2D Metroid this isn't a bad thing at all. Hopefully the next 2D Metroid has much better music.

Yet another not terrible metroid hailed as the second coming of Christ. It's not as good as zero mission or am2r, better than fusion, still not all that good
>but fusion is better than zm
Not with those fucking objective markers it sure isnt
