TF2 crashes when not ran in -windowed mode on their new Vulkan port.

I don't know why they just don't offer a kernel that can have the installed anti-cheats to play games and still have the mainline kernel for all the people who wish to LARP as a political dissidents worrying about the glowies using the anti-cheat to bug their toilets.
That way the people who just want to game can and the people who want to LARP as Che get what they want.
Give people the choice you know. Because they keep saying Linux if freedom, but all that freedom seems to be is the freedom to do exactly as the Linux activists say.

They are fundamentally x86-64 computer code. You cannot tell me that all the bragging the Linux community does on a daily basis could not create a bit of code to translate APIs or implement the sys_calls to POSIX.

You can. It's called the Windows NT kernel. Literally just keep a Windows drive and dual boot if you're addicted to games that need anti-cheat. You know half the developers of such games would just continue saying "no" to Linux even if there were a viable anti-cheat solution anyway, because even verifying it works isn't worth 1% oops now it's 2% oops now it's nearly 3% but still a small proportion of potential players. If they're not willing to invest the time and energy in convincing themselves that Linux users aren't cheating, they'll just put some kind of `if isWine() { crash(); }` in their code for the peace of mind. Meanwhile, if the Linux kernel developers (who are not your slaves) don't feel like working on features that most Linux users don't want and most game developers wouldn't bother to use, all you (collectively i.e. the people who give a shit) can do is implement it yourselves, and you won't.

Kernel level code is extremely complicated, so it's not as simple as wine/proton. And if you don't get the approval of the anti-cheat devs first, they'll just detect and ban it because they'll se it as a workaround.

Wrong question. Nothing about Linux fundamentally blocks anti-cheats from working. The right question is when anti-cheats will get Linux support, and that's honestly not far off. Linux is getting to the point in marketshare where you're throwing away money by not supporting it. I'd say in a few years the most popular anti-cheats and even shit like photoshop and ms office will have Linux versions.

Bazzite has worked pretty well for me so far, but thinking of stepping into a less locked in version.
Its a derrivitive of Fedora I know, and I assume with KDE it will be approximately the same.

One of the reasons being that I'm not quite ready to swap my existing HDDs over from NTFS and the Bazzite people apparently refuse to support it. Have a spare WD 6TB I could slot in, only reason I haven't is the cables from the three in it would need to be rearranged or swapped out for a different shape. (Two angle down at the HDD plug in, one doesn't.)

The SSD the distro is on only has the distro and a couple steam games on it, though it has a fun habit of creating redundant boot entries in the bios, was up to 22 last I looked. Cleared them out with efibootmgr, but fuckin annoying.

You're right. I was speculating (based on the fact that people who use Linux are by definition choosing to use an OS which lacks the feature in question), and shouldn't have stated it as a known fact. The actual proportion of existing Linux users who want the kernel opened to anti-cheat was just so not the point of my post that I didn't bother to add a "maybe" or whatever would have fixed that sentence. If indeed most users want it, then the developers should consider implementing it. But they would also need to consider whether game developers will use it or allow its use (i.e. what >>719994830 said if you read the whole post instead of stopping at the first comma like the guy who wrote the first reply to it). On top of that, none of this matters if the kernel developers feel that such a thing conflicts with their vision for the kernel, because they are not slaves and can say "fuck off and fork it" to anyone demanding features they don't like.

It''s because Red Hat is an American company and including H.264 in your software is a legal minefield thanks to the way software patents work here. RPMFusion can get your codecs in one command and it works flawlessly afterwards but the OOTB experience gets sacrificed a bit.
