People who only play video games and nothing else are retarded.

he is. i've been neglecting vidya for most of this year trying to get better at drawing and it paid off, at least copying is somewhat easy now. i've played some vidya every now and then to wind down, but like an hour a week at best, its just not that exciting anymore. thank you kojima

I don't care about books or movies as an entertainment medium in my life. It's fine if others do, but I just don't really enjoy them myself. I get that he's trying to expand the average person's horizons so they can discover more things but I just don't care. I can't enjoy the sensation of triple jumping or suplexing an enemy in books or movies like I can with video games.

That's why we're in this mess as an industry.
Because games are trying to be like films and books.

If you want to make a game, you should play more games, and not just "good" games. Play shitty ones, take ambitious ideas that failed, and fix them up and make them good.

According to his Criterion choices, he got better taste than most.
He's a 62-year-old married man with 2 adult sons, probably with grandkids as well so he's more of a successful man than most people on /v/

people should insist on books being peak intellectualism and art, when they're just another form of entertainment.
If anything that puts people off. I was surprised when I actually picked up things like Crime and Punishment or Moby Dick for the first time, that they were funny. People don't tell you these things.
Honestly, it's like fighting game fags treating their genre as ten times more complicated than it is, and scaring people away.

Even relatively brainless shooters train your mental skills. Map memorization, precise hand-eye coordination, reflexes, tactics ect. Playing a video game is like taking your brain to a mental gym.
Reading books for knowledge you don't immediately need is pretty pointless. The knowledge was recorded in a book in the first place because human brains forget it over time if they are not actively using it.
If you are reading books to become more creative or deepen your understanding of the arts, then you should be writing books instead.

No. Young men are the only ones that can appreciate videogames. All good art should be taken in early as possible. Education should be eradicated. Games are the highest form of art, they incorporate all other forms. Bad examples aren't the standard.

Broadening your experience is good and more often than not enjoying one of those can bounce off the other and make another more enjoyable. Because of my experience of certain games going back and watching a certain movie is a better experience than it would have been had I not played a game and now if you watch more movies and read some books you can go vice versa.
Anonymous No.720010129
Certainly hasn't helped Kojima. The writing in his games are fundamentally terrible. Guy is the George Lucas of video games. Needs an editor to get ideas across better.
