Except almost every gamer when given the choice between light and dark side in video games picks light side so I guess they wouldn't.

I would join the Sith and become the next Vititate.
I would ascend myself into a spiritual state so that I could just live forever, hopping into other peoples' bodies to pilot them for a bit to entertain myself. It wouldn't be nice having to kill people to sustain myself, but it would ultimately be worth it.

I wouldn't because the dark side is all about hurting people and I don't really like that.

I'd join the dark side because as soon as the rebels won the galaxy went back to being a pile of shit filled with conflict, drugs, slavery, and space terrorism while the head of everything was returned to being a completely ineffective bureaucratic hellscape that gets nothing done.

Are you talking about the empire? I don't have to join them to do that. It's also a huge galaxy. I could rape kill and enslave hundreds of women and children on a backwater planet. Then decide to make those girls have my babies and I'd start my own clan.

The war he started? It says a lot that even though the Separatists were something of a problem that was always there and always threatening to tear the Republic apart, it only happened when one very driven political manipulator spent most of his life pushing for it.

And then when he's cleaned up his own mess he reveals his only plan for keeping peace in a way the Republic couldn't, even with a huge army and navy they never had, is to threaten to blow up whole planets with a big laser.

The era between the liberation of Coruscant and the Yuuzhan Vong war is the most peaceful the galaxy had been in a long time.
The Yuuzhan Vong were not the NR's fault, Darth Caedus was a basically just a product of bad writing, and with the Empire in charge and no New Jedi Order, Abeloth would have caused a total omnicide.
