I consider myself a pretty understanding guy. And I do get the appeal for games that get their inspiration from Wario Land. But I look at this art style, I look at the way the main character acts and I just think "Man this game's art is butt ugly".

I mean should I give it a go? Is the game legit fun? Should I try and look past the awkward as fuck protag and ugly art style and just give it a go? I think Wario Land 4 is a masterpiece so does /v/ think I should just try it out?

I have seen shit of absolute repulsion. Pizza Tower just has an art style I'm not a fan of. It's well animated and doesn't disgust me so it looks great.

The art style is just supposed to be cartoony, even the Steam page says that it was inspired by '90s cartoons that the main dev was a fan of. It has less detail as a tradeoff for having much more fluid and expressive animation.

You'll find it fun if you give it a fair shot. The controls might seem unwieldy at first, but once you get the hang of them controlling Peppino feels amazing.

Do yourself a favor and go listen to a few tracks right now. The OST is absolutely insane - think frantic jazz mixed with breakcore and Saturday morning cartoon energy. Even if the game somehow doesn’t click for you, the music might worm its way into your brain and start converting you. Start with “It’s Pizza Time” and see if you don't feel like throwing yourself down a hallway at 200mph.

Tried it out last weekend.
It's the worst looking game i've played since Bloodstained.
It's so ugly and repetitive looking that it was interfering with gameplay, because i wasn't sure if i had been in certain rooms or not because it all looks the same.
And the speedrun gameplay was just shitty.

I don't get these fucking ugly "bro it's bad on purpose" games.
I was reading about the development and came across these quotes and it all made sense.

I had so much fun playing Pizza Tower. The characters, music, levels, and art all appealed to me. Chasing S ranks and P ranks was fun and challenging.

The art will grow on you, it's very 90's animation via MS Paint which lends a certain charm to it. It's not necessarily a situation like Cruelty Squad where it's ugly intentionally, more about the era it harkens to. What's going to matter more is how you feel about the gameplay

It's good. Solid moveset, good game feel, great soundtrack, decent level design with gimmicks to keep things fresh. You say the art is "ugly" but that sound like a (You) issue, i find the art style quite charming and the animation execution is amazing, all Peppino's moves transitions are smooth you never feel like losing momentum. Just try it and see for yourself
