If you look at reviews and ratings of Battlefield games at the year they came out and cross-reference that with the CoD games that came out that same year. CoD always sales more, has more players, and better reviews. The last Battlefield game that matched CoD of its year was Battlefield 4, and it tied with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Battlefield 2042 scored abysmal and wasn't very popular, but CoD: Vanguard released the same year, and Vanguard also scored low, granted Vanguard was massive shit and it still seemed to do better than Battlefield 2042. Battlefield 2042 was so awful that it ruined the Battlefield series/image hard, might be why they waited so long to release the newest one. Of course, now, the internet would have you believe that this is Battlefield's GREAT REDEMPTION of sorts with Battlefield 6. Battlefield has less games than CoD, but they don't release a new Battlefield every year, and only a couple of Battlefield games every scored very high/well in comparison to Call of Duty. The developers for Battlefield 2042 blamed the problems on "remote work" because of COVID so the game was just low quality and inferior.
