They imagine they'll need it to be portable for some reason.
Same story with the steam deck, they buy a "portable PC" at a huge markup then it mainly travels from the bedroom to the living room.

Laptops are portable. Portability is the most important consideration to real people. Being bound to a place is enslavement.

I disagree, I understand the appeal of a steamdeck, that shit is ACTUALLY portable, not a hassle, and even laying in bed or on the sofa to game is still comfy
That's what handhelds are for
A laptop isn't really a handheld, you can't play it laying back in a lawn chair, you still gonna be in front of the screen on a desk or a surface

Imagine being stuck at a desk in the corner of your room all day, facing a wall, with an immovable tower and wires everywhere. That's just so 1992, but some weirdos on /v/ still do this apparently.
Having a laptop is so liberating.

>b-but the heat
>b-but the noise
It's not 2006 any more, well built laptops run perfectly cool and silently even under heavy load.
>b-but the performance
It's good enough for 99% of things
>b-but the cost
The only legitimate complaint; but my last laptop lasted 7 years, and I'm going on 5 with my current one. Well worth the investment if you don't buy trash.

Portability. And it does its job and lives a long time if you aren't retarded. But I don't play the hottest releases to ever release and AAA garbage, so it works out. Extra convenient to hook it up to the TV for couch gaming and movies.
I intended to study abroad but I do think I'm going to have to up and get a full-on PC at some point. 2 years with my new laptop though so I have 5 or 8 years ahead of me unless I miraculously rake in a ton of money.

This is where I got the most use out of a laptop for leisure, my night job is very slow and I just play things on a laptop up there. Except mine isn't a gaming laptop so it can't run anything that needs 3D acceleration or more than 4GB of RAM because it was $200 from 2018.

I recently got one of those cheap chinese handhelds and it's probably actually more powerful than my laptop, handling DS and PSX games. Only problem is my laptop looks theoretically like a work device while playing that handheld makes it obvious what I'm up to. I really just wish I had a laptop capable of running most PC games on it, but I'm not spending more than a few hundred bucks on something that's only for when I'm idle at work or between shifts away from home.

Access to electricity is way easier than carrying a desktop plus monitor plus keyboard + mouse + a bunch of cables around.

I own a "gaming laptop" that I rarely use, but when I need to travel I do it for work. I don't even play games on it, but I like the 17in screen that I rarely find in normal laptops.

ive been assigned in a seanigger country and the electricity is 4x more expensive than in US. so a gaming laptop with a AMD 8c/16t with 5070ti has a full power draw of 230w where a desktop always has a minimum of 850w just for the cpu, the electricity bill would have been upwards to 1000 USD a month if I have been using a desktop

using a "cheaper" desktop is not really cheap if you have to pay higher electricity bills every month and that all adds up. gaming laptops are cheaper on the long run.
